Great hotel, great location

Great hotel, very convenient to the Capitol Building, Union Station (Amtrak and Metro), and all the monuments and museums along the Mall.

2 thumbs up

If you like staying in the Capitol Hill area of Washington DC, Hotel George is a great hotel. I have stayed twice and loved it. The rooms are huge and well cared-for, appointed in a very modern style, which isn’t me, but I like the hotel so much, I don’t mind the modern look. I love the hotel theme of George Washington - very cute and historical and DCish. The staff was very helpful to me, calling cabs, helping me to order food delivered in when I arrived back at the hotel very late one night without having eaten any dinner, etc. Union Station is practically outside the back door, which is so convenient for food, shopping, transportation. The Capitol Building dome looms over the area, and there is very quick access to the mall and many other locations. I just really enjoy staying at Hotel George when I am in DC. I definitely will stay again, as my comfort level with the hotel and staff and location is high. Highly recommend.

A Dog’s best friend

The Hotel Geaorge is dog friendly hotel that is clean, friendly, and right in the middle of Downtown DC. Within steps from your hotel is Captol Hill, Union Station, and the Downtown Mall. The Metro is right there so you can easily access the red line and travel throughout the district with ease. In addition, it is only a 8 block walk to the Gallery Place/ Chinatown Area with the newest gems to the city the Verizon Centre and the new Convention Centre. It is so nice to have such a wonderful place to stay and be able to travel with your dog at the same time. A real must see.

One of the best views of the City is from the top of the Old Post Office. There are no lines like at the Monument and you get a great view with out the hustle and bustle of more popular tourist hotspots. Located on Pennsylvania Ave, it is right off the Metro

Hotel George Washington DC

A wonderful hotel with friendly service. Perfect location to all museums, Metro and Union Station for dining and shopping. I’ll stay there again on my next trip.

Everything you could need or want is at Union Station. Wonderful dining and shopping. Metro station is located down the escalator and makes getting around so easy.

Decent hotel with good restaurant (Bistro Bis)

We had a double deluxe room with sufficient space for two adults and a child (14 years) for 5 nigths. Had a small problem in the bathroom, which was swiftly handled.

Traveler's tip on dining

Good seafood restaurant near the hotel (Johnny’s half shelf)

Was very conveniently located

Hotel was a great place but my room was inundated with the smell from the restaurant kitchen, as well as when we came in to the lobby. It was a pungent oder like baked salmon or something similar.

Lovely hotel, great location

As first time visitors to Washington DC, we selected the perfect hotel. It was so convenient for all we planned to do. To be so close to The Capitol and Union Station was a real bonus. Dinner at Bistro Bis was superb......

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Book a guided DC tour - money well spent, you see and learn so much.

Great stay

The location of this hotel was great. Just across from Union station and a short walk to the local attractions in Washington. The room was very nice, very comfortable and nice decor. Service at this hotel was great also. Very good value.

Not Impressed, I won’t return

I had to tell the staff that the toilet valve leaked not once but twice. It kept turning on every 5 minutes. It ran two days before they fixed it (we stayed 3 days). The valve washer would have taken 5 minutes to change, I know, I own rentals. The clean up staff looked a bit lazy and didn’t fully clean the room. Not much bang for the buck for the price they charged.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Used the MTA and it worked great.

Nice trip

The hotel was nice but for a 4 star hotel it had few amenities and the staff was nice but not extremely helpful.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

It was one of the best trips I have taken with my family...also affordable. Well worth it and highly recommended. My family has a better appreciation of who they are and proud to live in America

Terrific Hotel.

Our room was a little bit small, however, with all the other assets of the hotel, that was a very minor point. We thought the hotel was wonderful and would definitely stay there again! The adjoining restaurant, Bistro Bis, is sensational.

Great staff & right near Union Station

We took the Metro from Reagan International and emerged two blocks from the hotel. That saved us $$$. It’s walking distance to everything: Chinatown, The Mall, Monuments, Congress, etc..

Location location location

I have to get it out of the way. I was shocked they had lingerie in the wardrobe for sale. No biggie, I just never saw that in "fine" hotels before. Anyhoo, being literally next door to Union Station MADE this trip. This hotel is walking distance to everything, and cabs are frequently there for use. The staff were ALWAYS pleasant. The room was comfortable, the bathroom was comfortable especially for 4 women that were staying. If I go back to DC I will definitely stay at this hotel. Sarah

Traveler's tip on dining

Fogo De Chao is very close and a perfect end to a day of sightseeing. The food was great! We went early and it was perfect. A perfect mix of travellors but mostly DC locals.

Great for Price

Even though my room was somewhat small I still think my stay at the hotel was very good. The Bistro is excellent even though somewhat pricey. The hotel is next to Union Station and very close to the Capitol Building. I like to walk so I was able to see all the sights on foot. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that wants to go to Washington on business or pleasure.

Great location

My girlfriend and I stayed at Hotel George in DC for a weekend. The location is great - about a 5 minute walk from Union Station. We arrived by train early on Friday morning and our room was ready. We walked everywhere - to the Smithsonian and as far as the White House and the Washington Monument. The metro is conveniently located at Union Station. There is a great wine reception on weeknights, so we really enjoyed it our first night. We did not eat at their hotel, but there are plenty of restaurants within a few blocks from the hotel. I will stay here again as I have asked my husband to join me next time.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Don’t miss the Newseum on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Excellent location just blocks from the Mall

Very modern rooms, bathrooms recently updated. Hotel restaurant was first class, as was the service. We have enjoyed several hotels in the Klimpton chain in D.C. and elsewhere.

Nice Central Location

Great Hotel, great Location. Jeust a small minus: Underneath the window was a big Airco Unit, so it was not possible to sleep with window open. Very nice was the Wine drinking every evening between 17:00 and 18:00 (gratis)

Can’t wait to go back

I guess you could call me country folk! I grew up in a small west texas city and when my husband and I decided to go to washington d.c at the last minute we expected rude people, terrible service, and an unpleasent hotel stay. I just new we were walking into some shady hotel wehen we arrived in the middle of the night but to our surprise, everyone was so helpful and the hotel was extremly nice! Our room was insane! We had a blast and the hotel staff catered to our everyneed. THey told us the best places to go, best places to eat, and the best way to get around the city. We were able to purchase trolly tour tickets of the city right in the lobby! I love to travel and the hotel George was one of the best places I have ever been to!! I highly reccomend it!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If you want to see as much as Washington D.C. as possible the best thing to do is take the trolly tour!! It was reasonablely priced and we could get on and off whenever we chose. There were trolly running every 15 minutes and in one day we saw the entire city! It was an amazing experience!!

Nice and recommendable, but not the as nice as other Kimptons

I’m hooked on Kimptons - when you can stay there (especially at good Expedia rate - but otherwise, they do often run specials), do! As per Kimpton usual, the front desk staff were super nice and very genuine.....the location is excellent - right near Union Station and I hear the restaurant is exceptional (didn’t have time to go there)....BUT, the room is on the smaller side (compared to 2 other DC Kimptons I’ve stayed at....but comparable to the Westwood, CA Kimpton) and not really anything too spectacular (though Kimptons always have comfortable beds and really nice bathrooms).....So, all in all, a pretty nice place to stay, just don’t expect anything too spectacular from the room - if you don’t need to be near Union Station, you might try one of the other Kimptons in DC....Hotel George is definitely a good 2nd option though.

Hotel George is a great hotel. Personnel are friendly, rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and it’s very convenient to Capitol Hill, Union Station and the Mall. We love it!
