"One to Two nighters downtown San Jose"
Second time I have passed through this San Jose hotel enroute to outdoor adventures. Older building without the amenities we have in the states, but if the objective is a bed and shower downtown at a fair price, it is ok. No parking in facility, but some available at a price less than a block away. Biggest improvement I noticed was the wifi. Last time, it was a poor signal and hit or miss. Solid this time around.

"Amazing Trip and Stunning View!!!"
We traveled in the shoulder season in May, and before choosing this hotel we read the great reviews about Fernando, the manager, as well as other staff at the hotel. We chose the hotel because we did not want to stay in a resort, but wanted a more adventurous vacation and its proximity to San Jose as well as its stunning views of the city won us over for our entire 10-day stay. Initially, I had doubts about Fernando ever existing, but a week before our trip when we were planning to book our day trips, we called the hotel and spoke with him. Fernando helped us on a daily basis, booking tours and cabs, and more. Him and most of the staff were great at making our stay very homey. We pretty much had the entire hotel to ourselves and had their assistance as we needed it. Fernando booked our tours and had a driver, Johan, pick us up from the airport. Johan became our personal driver and charged just as much as any other cab driver in the city. The cost from the hotel (which is located in Alajuelita, not Escazu as we initially thought) to San Jose was approximately $12 on a busy morning. Tours booked from the hotel were the same price, if not cheaper, as they would be if you had booked them online, but they pick you up and drop you off at the hotel instead of San Jose. Overall, we had the trip of a lifetime even though we did not stay in a resort. Costa Rica is an incredible place and everyone is extraordinarily nice. Cannot wait to go back!

"Nice hotel within minutes of airport. Great value"
We had a very nice stay the night before we left Costa Rica from San Juan Airport. The hotel was conveniently located near the airport. The hotel lobby, our room, and our shower were very clean. The room had all of the normal amenities and all the linens were fresh and looked new. The staff was one of the friendliest and most customer service oriented staffs that we have experienced this summer. Breakfast is served from 7 to 9 am, but our plane was leaving earlier. The staff prepared breakfast for us at 4:30 so that we would be able to eat before leaving for the airport. The hotel staff takes security seriously and the property is monitored and secure. They provide gated, fenced and alarmed parking located about 50 meters from the property. The local area was fine for us, but we are very used to different environments. Some travelers may find some of the people on the street in the neighborhood to be a stress point, but we enjoyed mixing with the crowd. There are a number of local shops and small restaurants in the area. A word of caution... rush hour traffic moves very slowly. the 2 mile drive that took us 6 minutes at 5 am took us about 30 minutes the previous afternoon. I would very highly recommend this hotel to the adventurous traveler!

"Cute, Clean & Colorful..."
My friend and I stayed at Kap's upon arriving in San Jose. Although there are cheaper hostels to stay at I felt more like a quieter place with our own room to begin the trip. Like pretty much everyone in Costa Rica, the staff was super friendly. We got a nice, clean room with a private bath / shower and hot water :) There are many sweet spots to chill out in, a nice outdoor seating area and the breakfast was superb! Kap's is also located conveniently to many nice restaurants, parks, etc. I took lots of nice photos of the place and will send them to Kap's when I get home in hopes they can be of use for displaying the hotel a little better...

"Old Costa Rica"
I have been coming to Costa Rica for 28 years and this is a refreshing change from the sterile, "new" style of rooms being offered to the traveling public and tourist. I have been looking for an alternate to the typical hotel near the airport and have found one that feels like I have arrived somewhere special - COSTA RICA.

"Noisy, but quite OK"
The hotel is rather good. Near to the San Jose downtown, more or less quiet street, the stuff is very helpful. The minus is 2 sources of noise: a TV set in the lobby (sometimes till late night) and a train nearby. Not even the train itself, but the fact that it's horning when it passes nearby, to warn people not to run across the trails. But if you have earplugs for this case, the hotel will be quite OK.
