Dei Consoli Hotel

Via Varrone 2d, Rome 00193 - Map
"brilliant location, no nonsense hotel."
Despite the fact that the Dei Console is small and has basic facilities, we found it perfect for our short stay. The staff were unobtrusive but very helpful when approached and able and willing to book tours, taxis and restaurants, give directions. The hotel has views of the Vatican from its pretty roof terrace and all the attractions we wanted to see were within walking distance. The hotel rooms are small but not cramped, are very clean and comfortable. I would certainly return to the Dei Console when I visit Rome in the future.

"Very nice hotel in a good location."
We stayed for 4 nights at the end of September. The hotel is in a good location not far from the Vatican. The bar/breakfast room is openair on the top floor of the hotel with incredible views. The barman Willy is a gem. He provided us with hot snacks with our drinks which were reasonably priced. Overall our stay was enjoyable the only downside was the traffic noise which sometimes went on late into the evening. The breakfast was very good with a great choice. Lift and air con available. Bathroom large and stylish but a little impractical.

Hotel Giulio Cesare

Via Degli Scipioni 287, Rome 00192 - Map
"Good hotel, good location"
The Giulio Cesare Hotel is an old building, satisfactorily maintained, and in quite a good location within easy walking distance of all the main attractions in Rome. A long and pleasant river walk from the hotel brings you to Trastevere for the best family restaurants. Reception staff were courteous and helpful, but on occasions there were not enough of them on duty. Breakfast was adequate but better coffee and fresh fruit would have made a difference; we wondered why breakfast wasn't served in that lovely terrace garden instead of in the basement. The garden was an attractive space to sit and have a drink in the evening despite the slow service. As a couple we booked a triple room, paying the extra in order to have adequate space, as the doubles and superior doubles were on the small side. Arriving tired and late at the airport on our first night, we made the mistake of taking a taxi instead of using the hotel's own chauffeur service and we were roundly cheated in the process. On our return to the airport we used the hotel's car service and couldn't have asked for better.

"One of the Classier Hotels near the Vatican"
To me, the cost of the hotel is matched by its neatness, quietness, pleasant service and facilities. No complaints! The breakfast buffet, included with the room cost, is of very good standard and thus a very good value. The hotel has a free shuttle to the Vatican but it is important to note that it does not run all day and it does not run at all at nights or on Sundays. That said, there are several available options for getting around, including the Appiano train station literally around the corner, and a few bus stops close by. Transit tickets are available from a nearby Tabacchi (tobacco shop) on Via Appiano (a street adjoining the hotel). If preferred, the front desk readily helps with a taxi. As of Summer 2015, a taxi ride from the hotel to St. Peter's Square is about 10 Euros while a bus/train ticket costs 1.50 Euro. Currently one transit ticket can be used for a single train-ride and / or as many bus-rides as possible before it expires, 90 minutes after first use. For those who drive or rent a vehicle, the hotel offers free parking. Additionally, the hotel has several e-bikes (electric bikes) for hourly or daily rental.

"Fantastic hotel in an excellent location for touri"
We stayed here for 7 nights and it was fantastic! Its in the best location for all the tourist sights and restaurants. The only minor problem I had was I am coeliac, so I did have some problems finding gluten free food. The overall experience was great, the staff were amazing and the room was lovely and clean. We have no complaints at all! We would highly recommend staying here and the Metro is only a short 5/10 minute walk.

The world's smallest country, Vatican City is dominated by St Peter's, Christendom's largest church. Michelangelo's humbling 'Pietà' and his Sistine Chapel ceiling frescos are among the world's greatest works of art. The Aurelio area is named after the ancient Via Aurelia, the main road that connected Rome with Spain, and is convenient for visiting the city's sights.
