Baja California Norte has a mountainous terrain overlooking canyons and scenic bays on the Pacific Ocean. The state makes up the northern part of the Baja California Peninsula, a region of sandy beaches, winding highways with stunning views and quaint villages. Travel through the towns to get an insight into the blend of Latino, pre-Hispanic and Anglo influences in this eclectic region.
Among the most well-known parts of the state is the city of Tijuana, just across the border from San Diego in the U.S. Explore Tijuana’s cultural cornerstones, such as the Old City Hall, the Centro Cultural Tijuana and the Casa de la Cultura.
Get involved in sports activities at the Club Campestre Golf Course, the multi-use soccer stadium of Estadio Caliente and the Agua Caliente Racetrack for greyhound racing. Go to the beach in summer to enjoy the Mediterranean-like climate.
Head east to reach the state capital of Mexicali, a cultural oasis in the desert region. Visit the Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral, the Sol Children’s Museum and the State Center for the Arts. Bring your family to the City Forest and Zoo and the State Theater.
Aside from the vibrant cities, the state is known for its eclectic terrain. Make your way through the Sierra de Juárez and gaze up at the peninsula’s highest point, the summit of Picacho del Diablo. At these heights, summers are cool, with freezing winters.
Down lower, wander through the Valle de Guadalupe and enjoy tastings at the vineyards, such as Emeve Winery, El Pinar de 3 Mujeres Winery and the Liceaga Winery.
To reach Baja California Norte, fly into the airports of Tijuana or Mexicali by the border and drive south to explore the state. Rent a car or bring a bicycle to get around the area.
