While only small, Batehaven has a big appeal to visitors. There is no better place to escape to nature, although this coastal community does get busy in summer. Go swimming, snorkeling, fishing or boating to experience the laid-back Aussie way of life.
Batehaven’s main street, Beach Road, has just enough shops, bakeries and eateries to easily keep you here for a few days. This road used to be a busy thoroughfare to the town of Batemans Bay, but since Batehaven was bypassed, the whole area has become a quiet haven.
In the early morning, drive or climb up to the nearby Observation Head Lookout along the coast. The rugged clifftop has tall eucalyptus trees for shade. From the top, enjoy the views of Snapper Island in Batemans Bay at sunrise. The rocky coves below the headland aren’t good for swimming, but nearby Caseys Beach is a safe place to cool off in the water and snorkel.
To see more of the Batemans Marine Park, drive to the ramp at Hanging Rock around the corner from the northern end of Corrigans Beach and launch your boat or join a cruise from the nearby marina.
Or, stay in town and stroll to the Corrigans Beach Reserve for a family picnic in the park or on the beach. Go for a swim, try stand-up paddleboarding, or watch the kids have fun in the playground.
The kids will also love Birdland, just across Joes Creek on the northern edge of town. This animal park is set in native bushland and is home to special native birds and other Australian wildlife, including wombats and koalas that you may cuddle for a unique photo opportunity.
For dinner, pick up some “fish ’n chips” at the local seafood restaurant and have it on the beach or in the park. If you'd rather eat inside, check out Batehaven’s steak house.
There is only limited accommodation in Batehaven itself, but you can camp, or rent a cabin, in the local holiday park, which has RV and tent spots available between Beach Road and the beach. There is also the Batemans Beach Resort for campers, which has more facilities for families. To the north, Batemans Bay also has a great range of vacation rentals and hotels.
