• Head off to Cancun for a fun-filled sightseeing experience. Approximately 40 miles from Playa del Carmen Centro, it has tons of great attractions like La Isla Shopping Mall.
• Your next stop? Tulum, which is around 40 miles away. Tulum Mayan Ruins is one local draw card you really shouldn't miss.
• Get into the great outdoors and inhale the fresh air at Progreso Beach. You'll find it roughly 170 miles from Playa del Carmen Centro.

If you don't have a driver's license issued in Mexico, then you'll likely need to get an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. Also consider that if an IDP is required, it has no validity on its own. You'll need to show your current driver's license your passport and other forms of documentation as well. Lastly, it's important that the credit card used to book the rental matches the name on your driver's license and passport. Some other things to note for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You'll need to be at least 25 in most countries to rent a car. If you're younger, it might still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of vehicles available to rent.
• Driving limitations: Make sure you read the fine print before driving away. Usually, you can't cross country borders, drive on ferries or on off-road areas with a rental vehicle.
