There are some hidden charges which a visitor has to pay over and above the booking amount. It would have been great if the receptionist or anybody at the guest service would have informed the visitors about it. There is less transparency and differential treatment based on a person’s colour, country and how much they spend.

Room is very dirty

This is the worst 5-star all-inclusive experience our family had during christmas. We did not have hot shower for three nights and the room has been freezing cold. We informed the hotel the first night and they kept sending maintenance people without fixing it. And whats worse, they did not really care about our problems. Everytime I called them, I need to explain the situation again. And what I got is 'we will send someone to fix' ' the hotel is fully booked so not possible to change the room' or 'this is the general problem'. The daily activities and restaurants are good but I think the room itself is the basic of which the problem and technicians visits, really bother our holiday mood.

The positives: We went in low season so there were fewer people which was nice. There were many pools and it's very lush with lots of "wildlife". The buffet for breakfast was fairly good and dinner (we ate there once) was good but not enough variety/change at the lunch buffet. The staff was mostly friendly and helpful. The negatives: The beds are rock hard and although the room staff tried to help us, they didn't have the proper resources (foam mattress pads) to help make them more comfortable. I got very sick from the food/drinks on the third day so couldn't enjoy the food the remainer of our stay. I picked up parasites requiring medication and am still not well. It is a huge property so if you can't walk a lot, this isn't the resort for you. There were two (of the best restaurants - Italian and American) closed which was disappointing. A/C is not great in the rooms and the buffets don't have A/C which is difficult in the hot/humid seasons. Even though you say NO to the time share presentation, they continue to hassle you!

There is not much in this hotel to do and it is called all inclusive

Sunset Fisherman is the best kept secret in Playa del Carmen/Playacar Phase 1. The beachfront property is awesome, tucked away, secluded, serves great food, has excellent staff who go out of their way to remember your name every time you visit and assist you with everything you could possibly need or want. It’s not super fancy but the resort makes up for it by offering free kayaking, catamaran rides, activities, and a general sense of warmth & welcome as. Just always feel at home here!
