Volcano Flights

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is the site of one of the world's most active volcanoes. An awe-inspiring geologic park native, which islanders hold sacred to the Goddess Pele, the area is an educational wonder schooling visitors in the mechanics of volcanic activity, Hawaiian prehistory, and even astronomy. The town of Volcano lies just on the outskirts of the park making an excellent base for exploration of the entire area.

Flights to Volcano land at Hilo International Airport from either the mainland or other islands in the chain. While there is a second destination for flights to the Big Island, Kona International Airport, Volcano flights to Hilo are slightly more convenient, as Hilo is closer to the park. It is sometimes possible to find cheap flights to Volcano from West Coast-based cities during the year usually in the off-season.

Kilauea Visitor Center is the first stop for crater exploration. There are informative exhibits in the on-site museum and visitors can receive the latest news about lava flows and weather conditions to ensure their trip to the volcano is a safe one. Park rangers also offer excellent tours leaving from the center, which enhance any visit to the area.

The Pu`uloa Petroglyph Fields are a fascinating place to view the ancient art of the Hawaiian people. More than 23,000 images grace the area, making it a rich source of study for visitors and scholars alike. There are also ancient warriors' footprints preserved in volcanic ash at the nearby Kau Desert Trailhead.

I was surprised that on such long flights no meals were provided. In order to eat I needed to purchase it. Not cool.

Loved that we were allowed to remain onboard since our connecting flight was the same airplane.

Nice to have the seat-back t.v.s for such a long flight, but a bit bummed we had to pay to watch anything other than the show on Hawaii! (which was nicely done, however, so thanks for that) I also liked that I could get refills on the bottled water I purchased.

This was a great trip, i let my United trip go because it could not get me a flight to Hilo when I came in at 9pm. I lost money but your company allowed me to stay 5 extra days with my kids and grandchildren.
