“We wanted a quiet, rural retreat in a character cottage and this place totally delivered. It may not be for everyone, but we knew what we were getting when we came. The house was built in 1710. The cottage, with its thatched roof has all the character you could ask for. The kitchen and bathroom are modern, well equipped and the sitting area is comfortable. “We were a group of 4 looking for a short weekend break following 5 days meandering down the Kennett and Avon canal and the garden apartment was perfect. The location is fantastic being just 5-10 minute walk to the city and all it has to offer. Spacious and comfortable lounge area and the beds and bedding were so comfy. “This was our fourth stay at the cottage and the one thing I can say that we really like is consistency. It is always clean, welcoming and a bit of an oasis in the centre of Shaftesbury. We had a rental car and use of a parking space cannot be overstated in the town. The cottage is cozy and everything works! “Hawthorne cottage is situated in beautiful countryside. It’s just a short walk to the village of Nunney with its castle ruins and pub beside the river.
