Engelberg is a resort village in the heart of the soaring Urner Alps. Known for its year-round appeal, Engelberg is an exciting family destination at the foot of Mount Titlis. Visit Engelberg to explore stunning lakes and glaciers, ski on the resort’s renowned slopes, take in breathtaking mountain scenery and learn about the region’s Benedictine monk heritage.

Explore the village and admire the steep forested hills of the glacially carved valley. Engelberg is said to date back to 1120, when the village’s Benedictine Monastery was founded. Visit the monastery to see the largest church organ in Switzerland, an extensive library and cheesemakers at work at the on-site show dairy.

Engelberg’s beautiful outdoors await discovery at any time of the year. Visit the village’s surrounding snowcapped mountains in winter for a fun-filled day on the ski slopes or explore the plateaus, forests and lakes in summer to enjoy the lush greenery of the alpine landscape. The towering Titlis is ideal for skiing, snowboarding and taking in Central Alps views. Explore the Titlis Glacier Park and step out onto Europe’s highest suspension bridge or take a ride on the Ice Flyer chairlift.

Fürenalp is pristine wilderness for exploring off the tourist trail, while Brunni offers the intriguing Kitzeltrail (tickle walk) on Härzlisee Lake, a mountain pathway that is best traveled barefoot. Check out the water adventure park on Ristis, or go on the magnificent Four-Lake Tour. You can rent boats on Lake Trüb, wander the grassy meadows around Lake Engstlen, go fishing at turquoise Lake Tannen and admire old and new architecture at the Lake Melch plateau. Try delicious Swiss cheese fondue and hot chocolates in alpine huts or swap stories from the slopes at an après-ski lounge.

Situated in the canton of Obwalden, Engelberg is accessible via car, bus and train. Lucerne is less than a 1-hour ride away along a narrow-gauge railway, or you can reach Engelberg on a 2-hour train ride from Zurich International Airport. By car, Engelberg is just over 1-hour from Zurich, Berne and Basel, and 30 minutes from Lucerne. Package deals including accommodation and cableway passes are available.
