Immerse yourself in nature at my cozy compound, which blurs the line between indoors & out. The bright, sunny Studio & Annex were built using reclaimed and green materials to be a garden oasis. Located two blocks from the Deer Park trailheads and within easy walking/biking distance to town & shops. There's plenty of storage and closet space for longer-term stays, and if your visit includes mountain biking, there is secure bike storage, plus a bike mechanic's stand & tools should you need those.
The Studio has a full kitchen with Vitamix blender, French press, and everything you need to cook for a family of four. The ample living space has a couch and swivel chair from West Elm and features huge glass garage doors that open to the outside garden area with a dining table and cold plunge tub, brrrr. The bathroom has a gorgeous walk-in slate shower with a heated slate floor.
When it is time for bed or if you are looking for a quiet office space to work, the Annex is a separate building 20 steps away from the Studio and features a queen-size memory foam bed, a swivel chair, a closet, and a spacious built-in desk. It has beautiful views of the garden and plenty of light. Just outside the front door are two Adirondack chairs perfectly positioned to catch the first rays of the sun or watch the Moon come up and stars wheel overhead.
You can have complete privacy here, but I am always open to swapping stories with fellow travelers or advising you on how best to enjoy our marvelous little town. You'll have a lit, private entrance path featuring secure bike storage and an entire garden all to yourselves. The Studio and Annex are tucked away in a quiet garden and are a wonderful place to come home to if you've been attending classes and workshops offered at Spirit Rock or any other healing and yoga centers in town. Some of the best bodyworkers in the Bay Area live in Deer Park. Let me know if you need a recommendation!
You'll find it easy to take good care of yourself here, hiking, biking, and preparing healthy food from Good Earth - the best organic grocer in Marin. The Deer Park neighborhood is ideally situated for all that Marin and Fairfax, in particular, have to offer. You can hike and mountain bike the legendary trails of Mt. Tamalpais from the Deer Park trailhead just two blocks away. Deer Park attracts cyclists and hikers of every ability, and you'll be sure to meet interesting, friendly neighbors during your stay here.
You won't need your car much since trails and the lovely downtown are within easy walking distance. There is a spot to unload right in front and many parking spots on the street. You may find that you only use your car to journey west to beaches!
Fairfax is one of the most self-reliant towns in the country, with a complete range of services and merchants. It is a great place to shop, with various unique locally owned shops in town catering to a wide range of tastes and budgets. There is no TV, but the property has high-speed internet throughout. Stream music via the Marshall Bluetooth speaker, but since it is a flat, leisurely stroll into town why not go see some live music? There is live music every night of the week, you can attend an open mic, or take in the latest movie.
The kitchen is fully equipped, but be sure to try our great restaurants - Amelie has exquisite French food; Village Sake serves the freshest sushi outside of Tokyo; Mas Masa celebrates the wonders of maize in a garden setting, or you can dine at one of our stellar Italian restaurants (Fairfax was founded by Italians, after all) Sorella Cafe or Fradelizio's. Beignets at the Hummingbird Café and brunch at the Barefoot Cafe are highly recommended.
For extra guests, the couch in the Studio easily converts into a comfortable double bed.
Cell phone service is spotty in the neighborhood, so you'll want to switch on wi-fi enabled calling on your phone. During excessive heat in fire season, PG&E will occasionally turn off power, but I've provided a backup power bank just in case to keep you up and running.
