With beautiful beaches, a rich history and a host of nostalgic seaside resorts, Harwich is a place to come enjoy quintessential Cape Cod pleasures. Don your swimwear for lazy days on the beach, hike on nature-packed trails and enjoy summertime strolls through low-key resort areas.

Look for all of Harwich’s seven villages: South Harwich, North Harwich, Harwich Port, Harwich Center, East Harwich, West Harwich and Pleasant Lake. Incorporated in 1694, the area has long been tied to fishing and other industries relying on the sea.

Lounge on the sands of Bank Street Beach, where the warm waters are ideal for swimming and the shell-strewn sand perfect for leisurely beachcombing. Another popular beach destination is Red River Beach. Kayak here or simply enjoy another great walk along its pleasant shoreline. For fishing or sightseeing trips on the water, head to Harwich Port.

Sniff out the Cape Cod Lavender Farm. Admire the stunning shade of the purple flowers and buy fragrant products made on the farm. See its Enchanted Garden, which features a small castle and a fairy house.

Tour the Brooks Academy Museum to discover Harwich’s history. Run by the Harwich Historical Society, the museum has materials ranging from Harwich’s relationship with the cranberry industry to the town records. The society runs many events dedicated to specific aspects of the area’s history in the museum, so check ahead to see if something appeals to you.

Harwich Junior Theater is worth visiting. Attend readings, musicals or other performances. The theater also offers acting classes and educational activities for all ages.

Immerse yourself in other cultural activities offered in Harwich. From July to October various festivals and artistic activities occur here, including Brooks Park Arts and Crafts Festival, Harwich Cranberry Arts and Music Festival, and Art in the Park.

Harwich is about 1.5 hours from Boston Logan International Airport by car. Buses connect to the airport and also run locally. Take a trip to Harwich to experience culture and natural beauty all in one convenient location.
