The building itself is so unique and decor so in keeping with its “time”. Breakfast was great and venue was so cute. We sat at the window and took in all of the activity.
Boutique hotel conveniently located down the street from the convention center and the Capitol complex. Clean, nicely appointed room, friendly staff. Would stay there again.
What else can you say about the cutest hotel in Madison!? As the desk clerk said, "It's a 19th century hotel." The staff is excellent, it's a perfect walking distance to anywhere you want to walk to...parking is easy and convenient...they provide breakfast every day, and during weekends it is at the restaurant next door!
I've stayed here a few times, and will most assuredly be staying here again.
Our room, #16, is triangular. Unusual, but nicely furnished and cozy. We didn't hear any music from Essen Haus, but the hotel supplied earplugs, just in case. The breakfast at Come Back In was wonderful! Delicious eggs benedict and fried potatoes.
Very nice stuff, helpful and caring. Room was good and shower was just wonderful. This place had its own history and beauty.
It was kind of loud at night when trains were passing by so probably taking the room that looked on the other side would help, as long as it was not above the restaurant. Wi-Fi was good enough. It was hot breakfast with potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon, coffee included that was very nice. Place had own free parking that was very convenient.
Friendly and clean, excellent location and super convenient. Will stay there again!

Lovely old hotel with high ceilings, antique furniture and a fireplace. It even had a huge copper bathtub! I was upgraded to a very spacious room. I had a slice of the best bacon of my life at breakfast! It is across the street from a railroad crossing and a busy street so don’t expect a silent night!
Overall excellent with evening beverages, and breakfast included. Convenient parking and amazing location with lake view. Live music nightly in the lounge was an added bonus.
The location of this hotel is unbeatable. You are within an easy walking distance to the capital, the square, etc., but you don’t need to worry about parking. The rooms are gorgeous and spacious.
Very charming and homey place to stay. They have live music in the bar below— it stops at 9 so doesn’t interrupt sleep. Breakfast of eggs, potatoes, bacon in the morning is great! Staff is very friendly and helpful. Great location.
Cozy little gem in an awesome location! Delicious breakfast served in an idyllic cafe on the first floor with views of the lake. Warm little pub nearby! Friendly accommodating staff. Will definitely come back.
It is just magical to stay at this enchanting hotel that takes you back to a glorious bygone era. The antiques throughout, including sitting areas and two person hammered copper tubs make one feel very pampered at a price similar to the chain hotels. The property had a pub on the ground floor with live bands nightly. Next door, in the same parking lot, is a casual German restaurant with an outdoor beer garden. Next to that is a pub that has outdoor sand volleyball, occasional karaoke and the best fish fry, offered every night, than I’ve had in decades. The location is just a short walk to a beach on the lake and the neighborhood appeared to be very safe. I found the least expensive rate on Expedia. I have already booked my return visit.
