"The hotel is a lovely old building, having said that it's in need of investment, carpets showing there age, old miss matched furniture, the beds, well the bedding was clean but I think noah slept on them when they were new, as for staff except for check-in we didn't see any, I suppose i could have gone looking, but should I really need to. Saying that great location, but old and used, because of that I would say overpriced."

"We were very pleasantly surprised to learn our 1 room family suite had 2 separate bedrooms. Beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was nice. Only issues were that we only had 1 key which made it tricky every time we went separate places. Also there was an illuminated exit sign in the king bedroom we had to cover up it was so bright, and when others shut their doors it would thump ours. Loved the skylights, was a bit stuffy but those helped. Loved the breakfast!"

"A very friendly welcome, they were happy to accommodate our very late (11.30pm) arrival after we travelled there on the ferry. The owners have recently taken it over and in the last few weeks completed an overhaul of the bar/restaurant area which looks lovely. We didn't try the evening meals but the breakfasts were phenomenal, a proper Scottish breakfast that really sets you up for the day. "Very well centered for all the sites on the west side of Orkney and a quick drive to Kirkwall and the eastern archipelago sites. Staff was fantastic and a store featuring lots of local artisans is within walking distance. Not many dinner restaurants nearby, but a grocery store across the street had plenty of options for my needs."

"Absolutely amazing location, and great host. All the appliances worked (and we cooked frequently in the kitchen that offered space enough for 2 to be comfortable). The bedrooms at the top of the stairs were compact but had a table and chair in each, for those who need laptop or writing space. The living room was cozy. (The toilet was a bit loud, but nothing egregious.) The LOCATION was fantastic. I was concerned that possibly there would be noise from the harbor across the street…nothing. Ships came and went. There’s a good bakery, amazing butcher shop, and at least one charity shop (and museum) within walking distance, let alone a Co-op for all basic necessities. Would be glad to stay here again! Much prettier than Kirkwall. "
