Meadfoot Beach

Walk along a scenic coastal path from Torquay Harbour to reach this well-maintained beach, a favorite with water sports fans.

Meadfoot Beach is located a little further away from the action at Torquay Harbour than some of the area’s other beaches. This means it is often slightly more peaceful, especially if you visit during a weekday. Bring the whole family along for a day of relaxation and fun, try your hand at water sports, and take the time to enjoy a pleasant walk inspired by a famous crime writer.

The beach is well-developed and well-maintained, as shown by the fact that it has won a prestigious Blue Flag award, a Seaside Award and has featured in the Good Beach Guide.

Part of the beach is given over to two tiers of chalets, with doors painted in a variety of pretty shades of blue that complement the blue waves below. Rent one of these chalets for yourself, or simply stick to renting one of the deckchairs that are also available.

Set up on the sand for the day and enjoy watching your kids build sandcastles and make new friends, or venture into the sea to swim or try a more active pursuit. Join the locals who love to go fishing and diving here, or take to the water in a kayak or on a paddleboard. Rent any equipment you need from the dive store that stands at one end of the beach.

Note that the beach is supervised by life guards in July and August. Other facilities on the beach include public showers and bathrooms.

When you need a break from the sand, stop for a drink or a bite to eat at the Meadfoot Beach Café. Alternatively, pack up your things and head for a casual hike along the Agatha Christie Mile, a gentle pathway that takes in landmarks from the famous crime author’s life. The hike will lead you back to bustling Torquay Harbour, the town’s main tourist area.

Visit Meadfoot Beach for free at any time of day. If you need or prefer to drive, there is parking available for a fee in the lot nearby, or you might get lucky and find some free on-street parking.
