Mexico City is a dynamic urban center with an exciting restaurant scene, compelling historic sites and outstanding cultural attractions. One of the largest cities in the world, Mexico City buzzes with the movement of over 8 million residents. Admire the striking architecture of the city’s historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit fascinating museums, wander through distinctive neighborhoods and sample the city’s acclaimed cuisine.

Walk around the Zócalo, officially known as the Plaza de la Constitución, the city’s bustling main square and the heart of the Centro Histórico. One of the largest city squares in the world, the Zócalo has been a center for public gatherings for centuries. Look inside the imposing Metropolitan Cathedral on the north side of the square. This church dates back to the 16th century.

Visit the fascinating Templo Mayor, an ancient Aztec temple, and the adjoining Museo del Templo Mayor, which displays over 7,000 artifacts recovered from the site. Tour Museo Frida Kahlo, home of celebrated Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. The museum features collections of Kahlo’s work, along with some of her personal items such as clothing and photos.

See one of the world’s most impressive archaeological collections at the Museo Nacional de Antropología. Each area of the museum features artifacts from a different geographic region or culture, including pre-Columbian artifacts dating as far back as 100 B.C.

Experience Condesa’s chic nightlife scene, browse hip boutiques in Roma or dine on posh patios in upscale Polanco. Shop for local cheeses, artisanal breads and fresh produce at Mercado de San Juan, which specializes in gourmet food items not found elsewhere in the city.

Wonderful dining options for every budget can be found in Mexico City, ranging from street stalls to world-renowned fine dining restaurants. Don’t leave without trying huarache, fried corn tortillas covered with meat, cheese, beans, potatoes, cream and salsa, a dish that originated in Mexico City.

The weather in Mexico City is generally pleasant throughout the year, with temperatures averaging around 55-75 F (13-24 C). Get around using the city’s affordable metro and bus systems.
