Our son is a student at MTU, so we are in the area numerous times a year. We have stayed at various other properties (both Airbnb’s and other hotels), but Independence Stay has become our go-to spot. “Everything was clean, nice and the staff was fantastic. We were traveling with a high school hockey team and they went out of their way to help us with group meals and even checking out a day early unexpectedly due to a blizzard. Wonderful staff!”

“Started the reservation with great communication from owner and had to make changes to dates a few times and he was very accommodating. Over all the place was exactly as desribed and worked perfectly for quick access to snowmobile trails. Would definitely recommend and will stay here again in the future. ”

“We came to hike so was great location-relatively short drives to copper harbor, eagle harbor, McLain State park, falls etc.. calumet area has options for dining, groceries etc so you don’t have to drive to Houghton, unless desired. Apartment was clean, relaxing and nicely decorated. Would stay again!!”

“The apartment was a great base camp for our travels in the upper pennisula. Beds were comfortable and shower was nice. I do agree with another review about the bathtub being slippery when taking a shower. We bought a bath mat which helped tremendously.”
