The Freehand is in a great location - we walked over 75km in 4 days! Also easy bus and subway access. The room was spacious and comfortable, with service everyday. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Highly recommended.

A wonderful experience overall! The only slight negitive was that it was quite humid in our room and the fan in our bathroom didnt have a switch. A little dehumidifier action and it would have been perfect. Other than that, loved it💗

5th time Ive stayed here and it never disappoints. My only complaint is no in room coffee but there is a coffee shop downstairs. Go to the broken shaker for views at night

Overall, I had a pleasant stay at the Freehand. I was only there for one evening, but the room was very comfortable and clearly updated recently (the building was once a theater that then got converted to dorms for SVA), but now makes for a really cool hotel environment, especially with the aesthetic updates. And the staff were all incredibly welcoming and helpful, especially at the restaurant downstairs (the food is good,too). The one flag is that the club upstairs, on weekends at least, is VERY loud, and you’ll hear the music till 3AM. If you’re used to city noise, you may not mind it and they do provide ear plugs next to the bed, but if you’re hoping to take it easy and get a quiet night’s sleep on a Saturday, you may want to consider another location. For the price and being in the heart of Gramercy though, it may be worth it during the week.

Its very outdated, the entire hotel ( except lobby) stinks moldy, room had a particular foul smell , I figured it came from the tiny bathroom. Its not my first time in NYC, so I wasnt expecting spacious accommodation but even the upgraded room was extremely tiny, and no sunlight.. Staff is very friendly, and thats what surged the average number of stars in my review. Otherwise, my rating would be worse.

Beautiful hotel and great price for NYC. Rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. Lounge and restaurant inside the hotel which makes it extremely convenient if you don’t want to leave the hotel. We plan on making the Freehand our permanent staycation destination.

Rooms are very small, dark, and have subpar lighting. Decor is terrible. Staff was friendly. Could hear a bunch of noises outside. Bed and pillows were quite soft..not great if you have back issues. My view was a bunch of exhaust pipes and vents. I will not stay again.
