"We stayed here for two nights. Both dinner and breakfast were fabulous. Although there are fewer options compared to some other Onsens, they rotated food each day. The grilled steak in the dinner was super and it was paired well with the house Cabernet Sauvignon. The location is great for hiking in the autumn and we hiked up the overlook next to the gondola exit. We were surrounded by the majestic mountains including Mount Yotei."

"The location of the hotel on a bluff above Lake Toya gives guest an incredible view of the lake and adds to a feeling of quiet and luxury. "From my suite and bathtub, I had a stunning mountain view. The room was beautiful, clean and comfortable. The staff were cordial and polite. Although, I do wish the staff showed more Japanese culture customer service toward information and concierge services. Being at a Ritz Carlton Reserve hotel, I think the sophistication and quality of the onsen, gym, spa and in-house skiwear boutique weren't up to par. Those areas felt like I was at a Marriott hotel instead of a Ritz Carlton Reserve."

"This seasoned hotel turned out very satisfying to me. Though at one end of the beach park, it boasts a great view, with access to spacious beach front. Just as the picture of its exterior onsen spa shows, you can see the mountain at the far end of the lake. Also the check-in time is not as restrictive as some online review complained (before 6pm) so more flexible for a busy travel schedule. The staff is courteous and responsive to guests' need when they observe it. The only challenge for guests is, lack of Japanese language skills may restrict their communication with the staff. But this creates a real motivation for repeating guests to pick up some common tourist Japanese. And another possible annoyance is the residue smoke smell, if you are really sensitive which I am luckily not. So in short, I would love to stay in this hotel in my next visit to Lake Toya."
