LAKE FRONT COTTAGE - YEAR ROUND HOT TUB

BRAND NEW HOT TUB OPEN ALL YEAR LONG
A blue stone pathways leads to your own private charming cottage overlooking a beautiful spring fed lake with your own private Hot Tub and lake front oasis. Completely surrounded by perennials, and native trees. Lake dock, Hammock and kayaks await you.

OPEN ALL WINTER A walk down a blue stone pathways leads to our charming cottage overlooking a beautiful spring fed lake. The cottage is surrounded by 50 year-old pine trees, perennials, and native (URL HIDDEN) is situated on our four-acre property with your own private 160 feet of lake front with canoe and 2 kayaks. Very private, quiet, serene, and just steps to lake front. Relax in the outdoor hot tub overlooking the lake. The cottage has an open kitchen, dining and sitting area with large pine beams, vaulted ceilings and a beautiful view of the lake or woods. The kitchen is fully equipped. The dining areas, both inside and out seat four to six people. The sitting area is very inviting, featuring a Vermont casting gas stove and a large, cozy window seat overlooking the lake and woods. The bathroom has a claw foot tub with shower, with all the amenities: hair dryer, ironing board, washer and dryer, plenty of bath and lake towels.

The bedroom on the main level has a full-size antique bed and sliding glass doors that lead out to the covered screened in porch overlooking the lake. The lake cottage also has a private patio with a hot tub, gas BBQ, and fire pit as well as your own private garden. Steps down from the cottage is a 60-foot cedar deck, a 12-foot by 12-foot pergola, and floating dock. There are lounge chairs, a table and chairs, a porch swing, and a hammock -- all private and overlooking the lake. Take a dip in the spring-fed lake which is clean and refreshing. Enjoy a paddle in the canoe or 2 kayaks. You may see painted turtles basking in the sun on fallen logs. Canadian geese and swans may swim by. If you wake up early, don't be surprised if you see wild turkeys, deer, fox, or red tailed hawks. They're all very common in our area.

The charming villages of Rhinebeck, Tivoli and Red Hook offer many choices for restaurants and nightly entertainment -- and are only about 15 minutes from our cottage. The Fisher Center on the grounds of Bard College is also only a 15 minute drive. There are historical estates such as Montgomery Place, Clermont and Olana. There is also Innisfree Garden in nearby Millbrook. Cities such as Great Barrington, Woodstock, Millerton, Millbrook and Hudson are a bit further but worth the drive.

Guest access

Guests will have access to their own deck and dock, kayaks and a canoe. There is parking for up to 2 cars with a blue stone pathway to the cottage.

BE SURE TO SEE OUR OTHER 2 BEDROOM COTTAGE ON THE LAKE - LILY PAD,IF YOUR DATES ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT PAINTED TURTLE.

Cute Cozy Cabin but bad experience
The painted turtle is a cozy, cute cabin on a beautiful little lake. Nonetheless, we encountered a issues with the cabin and host. When we arrived at check-in the cabin was not cleaned. All of the beds were unmade, dirty towels on the floor and trash in the kitchen. When I contacted the host she seemed to be apologetic at first saying, “I totally screwed up and didn’t tell [cleaning person] people were coming today… I will give you discount no questions asked”. She said she could try to get a cleaner to the cabin the following day. Despite the offer, we had to spend the first night washing bedding in the tiny washing machine- suffice it to say we were doing laundry all night instead of enjoying our vacation. Note host did not refund cleaning fee. An additional major concern was the heating. The weather while we were at the cabin was in the mid 30s during the day and below freezing at night. The only heating system for the entire cabin is a small mini-split located high-up on the wall in the A-frame shaped living room. All of the heat was stuck at the top of the cabin versus circulated throughout. There is no heating system what so all in the bathroom and first floor bedroom. While the loft is warmer than other parts of the cabin, it too was too cold at night and we had to wear hats etc while sleeping and still shivered throughout the night. The photos of the cabin show an electric fireplace, this fireplace has been turned off by the host and is therefore unusable.

Relaxing and romantic
This property is wonderful. Don't think we've ever stayed in such a nice little cottage where everything went so smoothly, to be honest! There are clear instructions for everything and the area and building are gorgeous. The owners make themselves available for questions, but the material they provide in the pre-visit PDF and binder at the property covers almost everything. The area is lovely and private, but not too far from grocery stores and other conveniences. It was a truly rejuvenating little mini-vacation.

Great Anniversary, So Relaxing
We had another wonderful experience for our second time at The Painted Turtle. So peaceful and relaxing. Everything that we needed was here, even the complimentary bottle of wine which we greatly appreciated. Ellen was so accommodating and flexible with our changing dates. We will be back, hopefully in the summer to see more of the greenery and warmer temperatures. Thanks so much!

Perfect vacation getaway
My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The lake was beautiful, the hot tub was luxurious, and the cabin was well provisioned and cozy. Only complaint is that the kitchen could use some updating: the dishwasher leaked and the oven didn't work. Hope to come visit again during the summer.

Magical little cottage
We had a wonderful time at this cottage. My kids loved exploring in the backyard and Garden. We enjoyed a fire pit on a clear cold night, grilling and even the quiet serenity of the hot tub on an early morning. The house had everything we needed and if any questions came up the owners were quick to respond. We definitely wanna come back for a visit in the summer!

Great Location
The location of Painted Turtle is incredible - right on the lake, but in it's own private/peaceful area. The screened-in porch was a great space to relax and hang out in. The house is small (except for the porch!) but is very well thought out and fully stocked with everything one would need, including kayaks and a hot tub. Would definitely come back and recommend it to others. (We have already, actually!)

Disappointing Location; Unprofessional Owner
Unfortunately, our stay at this cottage was not great. The conduct of the owner was even worse. Pros: - Good amounts of paper and cleaning products provided - Filtered water - Good WiFi - Shopping center ~30 min Cons: - Price way too high for value compared to other rentals of similar cost - “King size bed” is actually just a mattress on a hard wooden floor. No frame, no box spring. - Refrigerator/freezer very small - Very little prep space in kitchen - Tons of frozen water all around the inside of the tiny freezer, including ice cube tray frozen in a puddle of water - Cleaning only superficial in center of each room. Edges of some spaces were filthy. - Oven needs maintenance — did not warm up fully after two hours - Couch very uncomfortable, and most other furniture was similarly cheap, very lightweight, and uncomfortable - Kitchen table and chairs very flimsy - Hot tub not private — no fence and visible from multiple other properties - Kayak/canoe did not appear well maintained - Bathtub very small — 5’10” adult couldn’t stretch legs out sitting down and hit shower head standing up - Smoke detector was non functional with battery compartment open Since there were a few pros, we would not have given less than 2 stars if the owner had not been extremely rude and unprofessional following our stay. She sent a nasty text and voicemail with allegations we strongly disagreed with. This served no purpose; if she had any problem or dispute with us, she should’ve only contacted vrbo. That’s literally the main benefit of using a third party for booking rather than renting directly. Being nasty to those who rent from you serves zero purpose.

Quiet Retreat
This rental was a wonderful quiet retreat for my husband and I. A sweet little breakfast basket was left for us to enjoy as well as fully set table and a bottle of wine when we arrived, such sweet little details to make this stay even more special. We spent most of the time relaxing on the deck by the lake and the screen porch. It was a great escape, especially during these covid times.

From the moment we walked in, we found the cabin charming and perfectly appointed. We had a restful, peaceful and relaxing time with everything we needed readily available. Between the bottle of wine beautifully arranged on the table and the perfectly set hot tub, we had the best New Years! Would definitely come back in the warmer months to take advantage of the lake and more of the area.

Beautiful place to stay for Christmas
Very cozy cabin for 3. Big comfy bed in the loft. Good entertainment access. Hot tub was lovely. Lake was beautiful. Civilization was close by as were hiking trails. There were a few things that needed maintenance and some sundry items ran out(tp, dishwashing detergent, trash bags). Overall it was lovely, would definitely visit again.

Lovely Wooded Lakeside Oasis
My partner and I had a wonderfully relaxing stay at the Painted Turtle Cottage. The cottage was extremely clean and well stocked. We had everything we needed and more than we expected; the hosts even surprised us by leaving us a bottle of wine for our first night and food in the fridge for our first breakfast. We felt immediately at home. The location on the lake was perfect. The cabin itself and the surrounding property were beautiful. There weren't any mosquitoes during our stay, but it was great to have such a large screened in porch just in case. We loved relaxing in the hot tub, cooking on the gas grill, and sitting by the lake enjoying the sights and sounds of nature. We kayaked and I even took an early October polar bear plunge in the lake because the water was so inviting. We had a fire in the fire pit outside, and we relaxed in front of the indoor gas stove while watching TV. The Internet signal was excellent. We could have easily worked remotely, but luckily we didn't need to. The bed in the loft was even more comfortable than the one we have at home. We slept incredibly well during our stay. And we were so happy to have a dishwasher and washer/dryer to help us stay tidy throughout our vacation. I also really appreciated the environmental concern the hosts took in providing us with organic food, cloth napkins, the option to compost our food scraps, environmentally friendly laundry detergent, and a clothesline to air dry our clothes if we wanted. I am so mindful of my waste and energy use at home, and on vacation I'm often forced to used cleaning products and disposable items that I wouldn't normally use. It was very comforting to me to know the hosts had the same concerns and that they made these environmentally friendly options available to their guests. We had a short stay and it was during COVID, so we didn't spend too much time in the surrounding area, but we did visit a few local orchards and farm stands. We especially liked the Montgomery Place Orchards. We got beer to-go from Suarez Family Brewery. And we did the short yellow loop hike at Ferncliff Forest, which was beautiful and the perfect amount of hiking to just get your legs moving. The view from the fire tower was spectacular. I would recommend this hike to anyone who wants a view without the work of a steep mountain hike. And we would recommend Cue 2 Go in nearby Germantown for delicious home-cooked takeout BBQ. We couldn't have had a better trip!
