I lived in SF for 15 yrs and never knew about this hotel, or at least never knew exactly what it was. There are many hotels that offer small rooms with shared toilet and shower access on the hall, but - trying not to sound too obnoxious here and probably failing - I thought they were all pretty sketch. Certainly not places I would feel safe as a female, and not places I would recommend even to a visiting backpacker.
This hotel is not one of those hotels. I stayed here during southwest airlines' implosion over the holidays 2022. I was stranded in the bay area, SWA had sucked more than $900 out of my bank account for emergency replacement tickets I'd tried to buy on their app after they'd canceled my flights - tickets that did not go through, but they charged me for anyway - and I had ZERO confidence I would ever be reimbursed for hotels and expenses incurred by their incompetence. So I was looking to go as cheaply as possible. Airport hotels were minimum $90 a night. I found this one online, read the reviews and decided to give it a chance.
Summary, it is exactly like one of those family-run hotels in a large city in western Europe. Clean, small rooms; perfectly safe (INSIDE the hotel, at least - outside the hotel isn't really dangerous, it's just an extremely busy downtown setting.) The international food court in the basement of Westfield center is around the corner, the Metreon cinemas are a half-block away. Perfect place to hang out in limbo for a few days. A
