Do not stay here! We were never warned prior to booking that this place has no on-site staff. If you do not have enough money from these overpriced rooms to afford a front desk staff, then you shouldn't be running a hotel. We were forced to download a phone app (which requires access to your phone's data) to check ourselves in. Because of an error on YOUR part, we were unable to self check-in and stood around for over an hour. We tried calling and had to be a VOICEMAIL. Finally got ahold of someone on the phone and got into our room at 4:30 - an hour and a half after check-in time - causing us to miss our V-Day dinner reservations. Our room was DISGUSTING. Stained carpet, curly black hair on the toilet seat, disgusting filthy walls and curtains, a shower that was falling apart, reeked of old cigarette smoke, homeless people sitting on the front door step... The list goes on. Then I requested a late check-out, only to be told they cannot accommodate, due to limited staffing. I have an idea: How about you hire some? My reservation paid for 20 hours of a hotel room - not 18.5 hours. So after not allowing us to check-in on time, you steal our money by not providing us with a late check-out. Cool! To top it all off, no one is responding to my complaints and demand for a full refund. I am being completely ignored. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BOOK AT WASHINGTON SQUARE INN! The location is superb, a block or two from the heart of North Beach, but it was completely quiet at night. The price was very good for SF. However, you should know that the hotel is pretty rough around the edges. Shower handle a bit funky, carpet very worn in spots, aging tiles, mattress hardly in its first youth (but we slept well).
