About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire apartment to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

The Hideout at Sunset House and Gardens a bit of old style Florida

Quaint and quiet the 'Hideout' sits towards the back of the property and has a private patio, tiled bathroom and separate kitchen. Plenty of onsite parking. 4-1/2 miles to Clearwater beach and 1 miles to delightful downtown Dunedin.

The space
The hideout is very private and has a cute, covered patio that most of the year is draped with passion vines and flowers. It sleeps two-three. The 3rd being a child. You can squeeze in a small cot but it will be cramped with 3 adults.

The kitchen is nicely stocked with serving ware, pots, pans, dishes & paper towels and basic seasonings.

Guest access
Many sitting areas in the garden. Laundry room ($3 a load). I have games, dvds, free weights, yoga mats etc that you can borrow.

Gas grill and fire pit area.

Interaction with guests
I live nearby and I am happy to give recommendations on where to go and how to get there. But I respect your privacy and do not intrude on your vacation.

The neighborhood
You're in the middle of the city but you feel like you're out in the country.

Getting around
You can use the bus system for local excursions but getting to tampa by bus is not a good idea. Try the jolly trolley $4.50 for an all day pass!

Pinellas bike trail minutes away!

The Hideout is surrounded by organic, permaculture style gardens. I often have chickens on the property and there is a bunny named Oreo (who pretty much runs the place) that will visit your patio looking for handouts. Feel free to use the sitting areas in the garden and move the chairs around if needed.

Casual & fun atmosphere. Earth first---we recycle, compost, upcycle, rain water harvesting and ongoing soil restoration projects

Beaches:
Clearwater Beach- Awesome, city beach with all the fixings. Voted number 1 favorite beach in the country.

Restaurants, bars, shopping and 3 miles of pure, white, sandy beaches. Pier 60 sunset festival 7 days a week 4-8 pm. Free movies on the beach fri & sat nights. 4.7 miles -drive, bike or take the bus.
Honeymoon island state park beach-voted top 10 beach in the country. Nature lovers will find osprey nests, a wide variety of shorebirds, and one of the few remaining virgin slash pine forests in south florida. The park boasts several nature trails and bird observation areas. Visitors can swim, fish, and snorkel in the warm waters of the gulf or picnic while they enjoy the beautiful scenery. Shelling is particularly good here, as the gulf currents deposit an incredible variety of seashells on the shore. Showers are available and the park´s concession has a gift shop and snack bar. 7.3 miles-drive, bike or take the bus.

Caladesi island-it is one of the few completely natural islands along florida´s gulf coast, caladesi´s white sand beaches were rated america's best beach in 2008. Beach lovers can enjoy swimming, sunbathing and beachcombing. Saltwater anglers can cast a line from their boats or surf fish. Nature enthusiasts can spot wildlife while hiking the three mile nature trail through the island´s interior or paddling a three mile kayak trail through the mangroves and bay. Picnic tables and shelters are located near the beach. Take the ferry from honeymoon island.
Other fun stuff-
Delightful downtown Dunedin-quaint, funky, trendy vibe. (20 minute walk) pubs, cafes, shopping & local art. Have dinner at one of the restaurants (you won't find any chain restaurants here and all of them are great. Then party all night at the blur night club or have martini's at the chic-a-boom room. Wander on home then go back in the morning for the Saturday morning market or Kelly's amazing Sunday brunch, take a walk on the trail or shop for unique art, wine, fashion or chocolates--there is always something happening here!

Pinellas trail: 25 miles of biking, blading, walking trail with plenty of neat places to stop along the way. (2 blocks away)

Dunedin brewery: the oldest microbrewery in Florida. Live band Thurs-Fri. (20 min walk )

Blue jays stadium-ball game anyone? (15 min walk)
Dunedin is very bicycle friendly!

Tarpon Springs Sponge docks- visit our Greek village. Greek food, belly dancing, sponge diving, unique shops, euro style cafes, bakeries, hand made soaps and more.

Liked: Cleanliness
The price is fair
Unit was very cute and clean , air conditioner had problems at first but was quickly fixed. I couldn't ever connect to the internet however I didn't really need it! Location was very close to downtown Dunedin. And not far from the beach. I would stay again for sure! The price is fair

Good low-budget option, 60's-whimsey decor, small rooms, friendly staff
The property is well-located; off Sunset Point Drive, close to Edgewater Drive, but quiet at night. The grounds are creatively ornamented with 60s whimsy. The accommodations vary but all are small, clean, and simply furnished. Whatever the place lacks in fancy decor is compensated by friendly staff and guests.

Ok, but just ok....
Good news: our hosts are present on the property and available for any questions or concerns. Since we were there for two weeks, we had a cleaning after the second week with fresh sheets. A real treat! The location is good; close to Dunedin Bad news: I guess the property could be called shabby chic. The window airconditioner was noisy; we were infested by blow flies the second week; we killed at least 4 of them; we did not call Landlord as we didn't want to breathe in insecticide. You get what you pay for in high season....

Quirky and Eclectic!
Quirky, eclectic and very homey. Hosts were very helpful. Loved exploring the gardens and it was so easy to get to after the Sea Blues Festival. Great location for our needs. Had breakfast at Benedict’s yummy!

Not what I expected
This was described as a cottage of which there a few on this property. The property and the gardens were as shown in photos - I did love that. Our small cottage was lovely and extremely clean! The part unknown and not told was that part of this property is rented to transients as a hostel environment. That is fine, I have stayed at hostels in my younger days. For a more mature couple or person who will or may spend evenings in the garden yard, this is not for you. The displaced young hostel people were not rude, very nice in fact, but the environment is not what I expected. I will leave the rest to your imagination so as to not be rude. I am very open minded person, and just advise that you be careful as to who you wish to be confronted with. My main concern is that it was not described as a transient hostel environment.

Beautiful
The place was very clean, very comfortable. The owner was just a phone call away and always answered and was super nice. My wife, daughter and I loved it. We recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in a home away from home.
