The Lodge at Gulf State Park, A Hilton Hotel

8/10 Good

"From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel as though we didn’t belong. When we pulled up to check in, a valet attendant told us we couldn’t park in the front because they were expecting a "large group." We were forced to park near the exit—a bizarre way to treat paying hotel guests. Things only got worse when we went to grab a luggage cart. An attendant asked us if we were actually staying there. Why else would someone need a luggage cart? As we headed to our room, we were stopped again and forced to turn around to use different gates, even though the original path led to the exact same place. Once we reached our room, we barely finished unloading our bags before a doorman practically grabbed the cart right out from behind us. It may have been intended as help, but given the rest of our experience, it felt like we were being monitored and rushed. To top it all off, we were charged $15 to park in a lot on the far end of the property. Valet was $22, but after the way we were treated by the staff from start to finish, we certainly weren't going to hand over our keys. A luxury hotel should treat every guest with respect and hospitality, not like an inconvenience. We won't be returning."
