Room #5 had a tiny, corner sink (so, no place to put soap and toiletries) with a separate claw tub/shower. It also had no hanging bar in the armoire, but the shower curtain was a decent substitute when not actually showering. Free breakfast was fine, but only available for one hour 8:30 to 9:30am on weekends.

The room was very cold and there was no thermostat. We also had a small leak in the roof over the bed next to the bathroom.

Florida Inn is in a great location in the historic district, within easy walking distance of many restaurants, shops, and local attractions. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our room did have a noticeable musty smell when we first walked in, which was somewhat understandable given the age and historic character of the Inn, (but the bed was comfortable). There was also live music next door, which we enjoyed, but if you prefer a quieter evening, be aware that the music can be a little loud until around 11 p.m. Other than that, it’s a cute and charming place to stay, especially for first-time visitors looking to experience Fernandina Beach and its historic downtown area.

The Florida House Inn has quite the historic charm. If you are looking for modern amenities other than air conditioning and indoor plumbing, this is probably not the place for you. If you want a nice quiet getaway with some very rich (over 150 years) history, then this is the place. The Green Turtle Tavern, right next door, has live music on weekends so it is a little loud until 11pm Fri/Sat and 10pm Sun. If that’s not on your getaway punch card, again maybe not for you. We had a fun time sitting on the front porch, with our own cocktails, and people watching. You can also sit down on the back patio around the mermaid fountain for a slightly quieter get together. You can also make friends with the resident kitties if they will allow it. If you know cats, you know what I mean. The black cat, Mama, is the sweetest. The Mermaid Bar is open, inside, until 10ish. The restaurant, Leddy’s Porch seems to be a locals favorite spot for Sunday Brunch. The food was great AND you can get unlimited mimosas (or Bloody Mary’s I think) for $15. The fried green tomato BLT with homemade ranch was so yummy. My husband got an omelet with sausage and the sausage was phenomenal! Homemade and so tasty! There’s also indoor and outdoor seating. That was nice. Especially with the change of seasons coming, it would make for a beautiful Sunday out. We had a small issue with linens when we got there but the staff was very accommodating and courteous. We will definitely be back to visit.

The Florida House is a beautiful, historic inn that has seen better days. There was no innkeeper on the property, no one to greet us, no communication as to how to check in. A kind soul from the business next door showed us where we might find our key. Our room was basically as I expected from seeing the pictures on line, except that the toilet seat was broken, the jets in the tub did not work, there weren't enough towels, the bed was so high that you needed a step stool to climb in and none was provided. The inn's bar was tended by a lovely woman that didn't really know what was going on there either. Torrential rains brought dirty puddles and debris down on the outside walkways. The complimentary "breakfast" was set up in the room where a staff was in and out constantly setting up for the weekend brunch-not complimentary. The oranges were moldy, the yogurts were old, the cofffee cups (paper) smelled moldy. There was plenty of bread in plastic bags, and some sweet waffles. If they had dared to charge for this, I would not have paid. I saw only one staff member, once after a rain, using a very loud electric blower.

I loved the history of this property. It dates back to before the Civil War. There are no elevators just stairs so be sure you are able to walk up at least one flight of stairs or more. You can request a room on the bottom floor. The breakfast was wonderful with seating inside or outside. I will stay again if in the area.

The staff are very nice. The inn is in a great location, in the center of the quaint downtown, which has lots of good shops & restaurants. Every morning the hot breakfast was very good. Parking is convenient & free. We enjoyed socializing in the parlor each evening, however the parlor needs some lights/lightbulbs. Our rooms #1 & #5 were comfortable, however the antique bureau is falling apart in #5. In room #1, there is no chair, the bathroom sink is so tiny it's difficult to wash your face, and the bathroom light fixture is broken. There are large, wet globs of hair behind the bathtub. It appears the rooms need to be cleaned & maintained better.

I had to track the manager down, who was in a different area of the building just to check in! Then, she briefly showed me to the room and appeared to be in a hurry to get back to what she was doing before I arrived! I asked about the doors being locked at night to the main part of the Inn but she said, “We don’t lock our doors here!” My Sister and I were the only ones that were staying there and we’re in our 60,s/70’s and we did not feel secure! We were right next to a bar that was only about 20 feet away from our room and they had a live band that played until 11, sometimes the music would rattle our windows! Even though the room was old, which we expected, it wasn’t clean! No smoke detector in the room which we were worried about because of the age of the Inn! Not a good experience at all! I must say though, when we decided to check out early, they offered a full-refund.

**budget friendly** if that’s your goal for Fernandina. Was just okay. Being a Bed & Breakfast, I was looking forward to what I thought would be a farm-style or family-style breakfast. It was basically a continental breakfast with no meat. The only protein being eggs (maybe real) and prepackaged yogurt. Room was fine, bed was comfortable, slow draining sink you’d expect with such an old property. A little too much light coming in from outside and the hallway at night but I’d stay again in a pinch.

I have stayed at this property for years now and love the historical property and the location. This year I felt like the property was a little tired. The beautiful mermaid fountain was working and clean this year but the gazebo a little broken down. My room had a very strong mildew odor however and my allergies exploded. The shower had not been cleaned with previous persons used soap and mostly empty shampoo bottle still there. Bedspread was ripped. Property just needs a little refresher.

I really enjoyed this stay a great deal and would stay there again given the opportunity. The hotel is 169 years old, is a historic landmark, and history seems to come alive in the place. Due I think to the holiday weekend, the staff were difficult to get on the phone for questions; but they were very helpful and friendly when I finally got them. Location was excellent, with easy walking access to many downtown restaurants and shops. Due to its closeness to bars, there was the sound of music until 10 or 11o'clock, but I did not find it bothersome, although some might. The only drawback I really felt to be problematic was lack of handicap access - but for a hotel built in 1857, I can't image how modern standards could be obtained without demolishing and rebuilding a large part of the structure, and that would defeat the purpose of maintaining historic buildings. Finally, I'd recommend them to all travelers; singles, couples or families.

Overall good experience. Great location and that's mainly why we chose it. It has a certain vibe that was charming and quiet, but it is an older property, so keep that in mind. Comfortable and unique. If you are a picky traveler, look elsewhere, but if you enjoy a more local, authentic experience this may be the property for you.

The room was clean and convenient location to shopping and restaurants. Great hot shower and charming decor. However, the upstairs balcony could use some much needed repairs. Broken rocking chairs and benches sitting around seemed unsafe. The flooring needs resurfacing and paint. Outside the property just needs sprucing up. The self serve breakfast was good. However, if you didn’t get right in there food was gone and no one available to bring out more.

I really enjoyed staying. We had been to place before for a family brunch on around 30 people. We loved the place so the next time I came to town and saw it available I grabbed it. I like they have their own parking available as street parking in old town is all pay to park. I enjoyed the Green Turtle live music next door. Rooms were quiet and a/c sufficient for this Alaska guy w temps in the 80s. I’ll be back. Great staff and service. Thx
