Learn more about Kunisaki

Ancient Buddhist temples dot the forested mountains of Kunisaki Peninsula, where hiking trails connect spiritual sites dating back centuries. Visit Futago-ji Temple to see intricate stone carvings, then explore nearby Maki Odo cave temple where monks once meditated in solitude.

Driving around Oita Prefecture, we stopped at Futagoji Temple (Temple of the Twins). The forests are deep and lush, the feeling here is peace. To date: the most beautiful place I have visited in Japan.
