This was the perfect spot for me. Less than a 10 minute drive to Chichen Itzá. The very personable owner made a wonderful breakfast before I departed to see the ruins. This is a wonderful place to stay in Mérida. We were taking a chance on the location as Casa del Maya didn't appear to be in one of the more central areas of town (at least from what we could see on the map) but it's close to everything. There were shops and restaurants right around the corner and some of the major plazas were just a short walk away. Everything was perfect...the hotel was a quiet oasis in the middle of a bustling town. Impeccable decor, comfortable beds, immaculate rooms, huge, clean shower, great bathroom products. They even provided mosquito repellent in the rooms. Located a few steps from the best restaurants in town. Next time we're in Merida, we'll be back to stay!

Another return visit, and I'd come back a third time without hesitation. If you're exploring Uxmal, the Ruta Puuc, or the broader region, The Pickled Onion is simply the right place to stay. Don't be put off by the rough roads and decrepit buildings in this area. Behind these funky doors is a beautiful oasis of calm and serenity! The main office is a few doors down the street against traffic so it's a little tricky to find. One important thing to know is that there are no televisions in the rooms.

The hotel grounds were overflowing with lush jungle greenery. The Vietnamese coffee wasn't too bad. The breakfast was pretty good. If you want a fancy place with wifi in your room, this is not it. If you want to relax and feel like you're a million miles from home, then this is it.

My first 2 choices of hotel were full so I tried this hotel and am so pleased I did. It’s a beautiful jungle retreat, a bit hidden, without loud billboards promoting itself. Super clean, friendly staff, WiFi , good breakfast. The staff are locals which was great. At this point only breakfast is offered so be aware you have to go out to dinner or bring snacks. No refer in rooms. Having a car is helpful but not absolutely necessary.. I came by Uber and left by city bus. I’m a solo female traveler...

Casa San Juan is not a Marriot or a Hilton, but that’s the best part! The owners & staff are amazing and the place has so much charm! Johnny at the restaurant will take excellent care of you! The hotel had a great location, interesting design, and good amenities. Great value and close to everything. The only negative is that we got a room next to the living room and next to the shared kitchen, and although it was to be closed by 10 pm, guests used it to cook a very pungent smelling full meal, took them several hours, stayed until 11 pm, talking, making noise and making our room smell too much for the whole night. If I could give this hotel 10, I would. When I was doing my research on where to stay in Holbox, I didn’t want be near the action or noise of el centro. I really did want that ‘eco-hotel’ vibe. Casa Noma was absolutely exceptional!!! I didn’t know at the time but my husband called in advance to tell them it was my birthday and they had a nice bottle of bubbles with some snacks and a happy birthday sign arranged in the room.
