Makes since, given that it came to prominence as a frontier town for the Moors in the 12th century. The old town is a charming mix of whitewashed houses and stone walls set amid a labyrinth of narrow, cobbled streets. The building dates from the 14th century, but when renovations were performed in the 16th century the outdated Mudejar style was jettisoned in favor of late Gothic, including an ornate Plateresque doorway on the west side. In the 18th century a Baroque belfry was added, completing this eclectic church.
