NORTHERN LIGHTS! Historic Storybook Beach Cottage at Tamarack Waterworks

This cottage has 2 bedrooms. One with a double bed and the other with a queen bed. There is a fantastic all-window front porch for watching storms come in over the lake. Original hardwood maple floors throughout. The kitchen has all the necessities, plus extra amenities such as a microwave oven, glass top stove, and modern coffeemaker. The bathroom has a shower unit. High speed Wi-Fi is included. There is a 32' flat screen in the living room. Our location is clean, well-maintained and fully equipped for a comfortable and relaxing stay.

On the beach you can enjoy a camp fire under the stars or even catch the northern lights, swim the Great Lake Superior, hunt the perfect rock or agate, fish 'til the sun goes down, barbecue on the charcoal grill and picnic at the picnic table, or take a nature walk and enjoy the natural beauty of the beach and forest. In the winter, ski, snowmobile, or snow-shoe right out of your front door or travel a short distance to our many local winter attractions.

Open year round, come relax and enjoy the natural beauty and tranquility of the cottage surroundings. You will truly love the beauty of the Copper Country and love staying at North Shore Cottages. For nearly 100 years the Roberts family has welcomed friends and guests to Tamarack Waterworks and we look forward to welcoming you. Just bring your food and a vacation state of mind. My First Stay at Storybook Cottage
I have been looking at Storybook Cottage for years and finally found a time we could go. It was everything I had hoped for. The cottage was quaint and perfect for our style of living. And being so close to the Big Lake was a bonus. We will definitely stay again.

Needs some TLC
We still hadn’t received check-in instructions by check-in time, and had to contact VRBO. It was easy to get in once we knew how. The house needs some serious TLC. For example, the bathroom door does not close. It was clean though. The listing led me to believe the cabin was right on the water - it is not. You have to walk down the block. The area is quiet and seemed safe. However, the rest of Calumet is run down and dumpy. We will never go back. Overall, the cabin is overpriced for what it is. Also, I’ve never ever seen check-out instructions request that you sweep the floors before leaving ~ that was absurd.

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the cottage and had a great time. Good location for exploring the keewenaw peninsula. Nice fire pit by the cottage and the sunsets on the beach were fabulous. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

Perfect getaway!
This property was better than we could imagine. It is an older home that has been well maintained with tons of charm! Super close to Lake Superior with gorgeous sunsets. We used this home as a base to explore the Keweenaw Peninsula. Great strategic location.

Perfect location
This cottage was located in a perfect spot for our needs. The beach was lovely and easily accessible. The cottage was quite comfortable but is old and lacking in some areas that newer places would provide. That was ok by us, because we enjoy the history of the cottage and the area.

Family stay in Calumet
The cottage seems to be the oldest of the properties at this location and has its charm. It was just enough space for my family of four. The location is excellent. It’s close to Copper Harbor and Houghton, so ideal if you want to explore surrounding areas. The beach was great for rock hunting. Phillip even provided blue lights to hunt for sodalites at night and my daughter did find one! There was a very nice nature reserve close by that we stumbled upon. A very nice trail with lots of variation and wildlife. We saw a coyote which was cool. Phillip was quick to respond to messages, which I greatly appreciated. A great spot for a low key family vacation.

Beautiful location
My husband and I brought our dogs for a vacation the week of Memorial Day and had a great time. The cottage was comfortable and clean with Lake Superior a quick walk from our front door. It is a beautiful location and feels very private at the end of road. I had tried to contact Phillip before arriving with a few questions but was unable to reach him or leave a VM as the mailbox was full. Sent a message through VRBO but did not receive a response. When we arrived at the house we were told that Phillip was out of town. It made us nervous that if we had an actual emergency we had no way to communicate with the owner. I appreciate that this cottage is quite old but the squeaky floors and bathroom door that doesn’t close I feel that the house could use some updates/maintenance. The queen bed was very nice, the living room furniture looks cute but far from comfortable. We had issues with the internet/tv every evening, losing connection halfway through movies Overall we had a great time exploring the peninsula with our dogs and walking the shore every evening.

Cosy comfortable cabin about 100 yards from the Lake Superior shore. Great central location on the Keweenaw Peninsula - nice to drive up the coastline (mostly) to Copper Harbor, a few nice restaurants for carry out close by in Calumet, gorgeous sunsets over the lake, a great place to escape and recharge! Owner friendly and responsive :-)
