Learn about the customs and traditions of the Fuerteventura islanders in this town’s museums before sunbathing at the spectacular beach.

Puerto del Rosario is Fuerteventura’s capital city and home of museums, shopping centers and many restaurants and hotels.

Take a leisurely stroll along the oceanfront promenade and look at the boats in the harbor. Visit one of the cafés and restaurants in this built-up area. Farther inland, walk down the pedestrianized Primero de Mayo street to appreciate colonial architecture and visit boutiques, cafés and a church.

Spend the afternoon shopping in the Centro Comercial Las Rotondas. Peruse its four floors with about 100 boutiques and restaurants, including supermarkets and jewelry stores.

After exploring the capital city, make your way to Playa Chica with your family. Rent equipment at the diving center near the beach and go snorkeling in the clear ocean water. Its safe, shallow waters teem with fish that will delight the kids.

Visit the city in mid-February to see it come to life for an annual carnival with exuberant parades and street performances.

Brush up on your Spanish before your trip to interact with city locals. You will also find many English speakers in the area. The city has been the island’s capital since 1860 and has grown around the commerce of the port during that time.

Puerto del Rosario is on the eastern coast of the island, just 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) north of the Fuerteventura Airport. The city’s port has regular ferries taking passengers to neighboring islands, such as Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas. Take short bus trips to beach havens, such as Corralejo and Caleta de Fuste.

Visit Puerto del Rosario to enhance your understanding of Fuerteventura’s colonial history and daily island life.

Pool and outdoor area was very poor. Pool had a leak and a hose running across the outdoor area attached to an outdoor tap was used to top it up every day. This caused a trip hazard - especially if young children were running about. The sun beds were very well used/damaged and really uncomfortable. ...

Back for a third time
A great place to get away from it all. Perfect for two. Though the wobbly table on the patio could do with replacing, and perhaps it's time for a bigger TV.
