Georgia’s Dukes Creek Falls Trail is relatively short and includes a pleasant path through the woods with waterfalls at the end of the journey. The 1.3-mile (2-kilometer) trail gently descends to the foot of the falls on a well-maintained rock trail. Listen to the sound of the falls and babbling cascades as you hike the trail.
The trailhead is conveniently located at the parking lot where you can see majestic Mount Yonah in the distance, as well as a considerable portion of the North Georgia Mountains, part of the Blue Ridge Mountain range. The first portion of the trail is paved for about 500 feet (150 meters). This section is accessible and provides a deck with a view of the falls. Have a picnic during your hike using one of the tables and grills provided at various sites.
Once you arrive at the base of the two main falls, you’re treated with water dropping from 150 feet (46 meters). Another flow descends by a series of rock ledges. Other smaller falls are also visible along this trail in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Return the same way, ascending this time to the parking lot. The return trip allows you to photograph any pretty scenes you might have missed on the way down.
If you crave more waterfalls and a longer but gentle hike, visit the nearby Raven Cliff Falls Trail. Located just north of Dukes Creek Falls, the trail follows a valley filled with waterfalls for 2.5 miles (4 kilometers). Combine the two trails for a day of hiking in beautiful surroundings.
