"Nice hotel close to the beach"
The staff was very friendly, and the room was very clean. We felt very comfortable, and loved how close the beach was for the price. The motel was about 5 blocks from the beach, or a 10-15 minute walk. Equipped with a refrigerator and microwave, grocery stores and restaurants are in close proximity. The continental breakfast was tasty. It was an overall great experience, and I would definitely stay here again.

"Nice hotel near some San Francisco attractions"
This hotel wasn't the best hotel but it had what I needed for my stay. Some fast food restaurants nearby, it's located at the front of one of the principal streets; there is a convenience store at the corner. The only thing I was a little worry about was the parking. They have only 10 or 12 parking spaces for all the rooms. So, if you don't get one, you have to parking on the street, where you have to pay for the parking. But in my case I was lucky to find a place inside the hotel.

"The Stratford is a great, inexpensive hotel!"
We had a double (bed) room. It was just like the picture on the website, so we knew what the room would look like before we got there. It was small, but we had no plans to entertain in the room, so this was not a problem. There are rooms with larger beds and I assume they are larger if you need more room. The room, bed and bathroom were clean! Booking, check-in and check-out were all smooth and easy. Breakfast is included and is basic. Cereal, toast, English muffins and fruit with coffee, tea and juice to drink. We ate there every day of our stay. You can catch the Powell St. cable car right at the corner! I had a lot to do in the Union Square area, so the location was excellent. There was always someone at the desk when we went in or out and the staff is friendly. I saw the concierge helping other guests. I read other reviews about the speed of the elevator, so I was prepared for something much slower than what we experienced. The elevator is perfectly fine. Our room was quiet, we didn't hear any noise from our neighbors. There was some street noise. The cable car bell sounds are charming. We didn't have a view, but there were two windows for light and air. It looks like rooms in the front have a view of the street. There was a hairdryer, ironing board and iron, which I really appreciated. There was a ceiling fan as well.

"Great value for money!"
Good overall experience here. Don't worry about the shared bathrooms - they are clean and I never had to queue for either a toilet or shower! Plus the bedrooms have sinks in them. Hotel is great value for money. Hotel and bedrooms are modern and comfortable. Fridge provided. WiFi all over hotel, not just in lobby - quite slow at times but decent. Location is good - the area is nice and safe. Not super close to sights, but I'd put safety above that. Some areas in San Fran, as we discovered, are not the nicest. Rest assured that you'll be fine here! Buses are close by, as are some nice restaurants and bars. Tip: take ear plugs. The walls are paper thin.

"Good ONLY for their price"
If you want to pay only $90/night like I did then you have to accept the condition of the hotel. Rooms are small, washrooms are very small and don't have a sink. 3 washrooms are shared by many rooms (they have private washrooms for higher prices). The shower is also very small. For the breakfast expect only a coffee and a donut. The bed is old, shaking and noising. For the WIFI you have to go to the lobbies because the signal doesn't reach upstairs. If you're looking only for a place to sleep to during your stay or looking to discover San Francisco with lower budgets, then you may find this place ok for you. Check the hotel prices!!! The location is central few steps from the BART station, the Muni light train and few blocks from the Powell St. line of the cable car. There are LOTS of homeless in the area but they seem friendly.

"Quality at budget prices"
The Inn is a budget motel in a very central location in downtown SF: my car was not needed at all to get around the city. The furnishings, cleanliness, and maintenance in my room and bathroom were of a quality expected in a much more expensive hotel. TV and internet reception was consistently good, and the heating in the room was much appreciated during my 4-day Jan-2014 stay. As other reviewers have remarked, there are indeed numerous homeless on Ellis and other streets around the hotel. But I found the street people harmless and in general good natured (one guy even took care of keeping a nighttime eye on my rented bicycle for me). The Inn manager's objective is to make his motel the best budget lodging in central SF.

The location was great and the front desk was nice but the water pressure was horrible!!! I literally had to have my husband get me buckets of water to rinse my hair! Room was spacious with it said it had a kitchenette which it didn't and the upstair room was loud at all hours of the night... Not sure I'll stay again.

"Great budget hotel in San Francisco"
The Phoenix was a great hotel. I had stayed the first three days at Fairmont for a conference then moved to The Phoenix for two nights on a vacation. For the price of the hotel I feel it was well worth it in a city that is pretty pricey. The staff is fantastic, helpful and go above and beyond to ensure you are comfortable. The free wi-fi desperately needs an upgrade. My two pieces of advice: if you have heavy luggage, there is no elevator on the property so you have to huff it up a flight of stairs. The other is - this hotel is on the edge of an area that is going through change. There is homeless people and others with various afflictions around the area. We didn't walk around in the evening but in the day, the hotel staff advised us the best routes to get to where we needed to go and we didn't have a problem. Great coffee shop just up the street - "Jane on Larkin".

"The most exclusive of all 5 star hotels."
Indulgence, Opulence and Decadence. The luxury is incredulous, the atmosphere is nothing but breathtaking, and the room; one word: Palatial. When I wasn't sipping on a glorious glass of the finest wine, I was admiring the amazing view of city life around me. Never once did I think that I was in a hotel, I thought I had to be in some hidden castle in the shires of ancient Europe with only the softest linens and jewels surrounding me. The staff was impeccable and the lush life around me would make me stay there forever. Thank you Rodeway inn, if it wasn't for your wonderful valet service I wouldn't have felt as secure as I did. Never, ever will I forget the beautiful and welcoming city folk that I encountered adjacent to the location. Once again, thank you for the most marvelous experience any person on earth or heavens or space could have asked for.
