Admiral Farragut Inn

"An Oasis of Elegance and Quiet"
The 5 properties that comprise the Admiral Farragut Inns on Clarke Street in downtown Newport are worth writing home about. Dating from as early as 1750, they are filled with charm and elegance. We stayed at the Melville House, surrounded by beautiful summer flowers. The management worked with my 19-year old daughter, partner and I to settle upon appropriate arrangements for us; one single and a double with an adjoining bathroom. The properties are spotless. The breakfast nooks and dining rooms (you can have breakfast at any of the properties) are further delightful, and the breakfast equally satisfying. The beds are super comfortable, and the place is spotless. The owner, Rick, is a garrulous, friendly soul pointed me to a secluded beach where I could feel like one of the locals and sunbathe, to bring out my tan for the dress I was wearing to my nephew's wedding in town. That's the thing: you really feel like a local at these inns, but you are treated like royalty. Right around the corner, if you want it, is all the shopping and tourist madness, so you've got the best of both worlds. I really loved every moment of it. The parking's a bit dicey, but the management has worked it out beautifully. Prices are reasonable and competitive. Plenty of hot water. Our room overlooked a gorgeous home with brilliant gardens, where I watched someone doing yoga serenely amongst the hydrangeas.

Walking distance to restaurants and public transportation. Right on the water. Very nice stay! Loved the new bar with bar inside and outside. Two pool tables and a shuffleboard table for entertainment.

The Hotel Viking

1 Bellevue Avenue, Newport 02840 - Map
We stayed at Hotel Viking for the 4th of July weekend. Although it looked really nice, I don't think it was worth the price; a large price to pay for planning a trip too late. For the total cost, I was looking forward to a much larger room compared to the one we stayed in. My girlfriend and I had some minor back pains that we contributed to the state of the mattress.

"Great location, great price"
I was looking for a name brand hotel that was in the heart of Newport and was extremely discouraged by the high prices. I stumbled upon the Inns on Bellevue, and it was extremely reasonable for the middle of the summer! It was extremely easy to find, and the hotel staff (Vivian in particular) was extremely friendly and helpful. It was great having on site parking, and it was a quick 5 minute walk down to the heart of Newport. Will definitely stay here again for our next Newport adventure!

"25th Anniversary stay"
This hotel should be kept secret as once you have stayed you will want to keep the experience to yourself. The relaxed and friendly welcome remained throughout our stay, allowing you to feel as though you were in your own home. Breakfast is communal but this just adds to the relaxed atmosphere - everyone sharing conversation as though old friends rather than passing interactions that will be lost in time. The rooms are exceptional and each room had its own style that reflected the house and its history, whilst offering facilities that you would expect in high end accommodation.
