“I stayed at Gardiner House in Newport, RI for five nights this past week, paying over $1,000 a night for what turned out to be the worst hospitality experience I've ever had at a hotel. Gorgeous property, utterly incompetent operation — this is what happens when a beautiful building gets handed to a staff with zero training and zero accountability. Every single day, despite checking me in themselves and seeing my face at every turn, staff asked if I was actually a guest. Not once — not once —……

“A room with a waterfront view is nice. Waited more than 30 minutes to just get acknowledged at the dinner restaurant by the water, then after waiting another 15 minutes of being ignored...we left. Decor is tired. There are better choices to stay in Newport. It's an expensive hotel, and should at the very least have better service.”

“Hotel Viking is a beautiful historic hotel in a fantastic location, but unfortunately our experience was very disappointing. Our room had multiple maintenance issues, including several non-working electrical sockets, very slow draining shower with a pool of water collecting taking over 10 hours to drain, and signs of ants. We had a 2 night stay - no room cleaning service for the price. We were just around corner from reception which doubles as a wine bar in afternoon, hangout in evenings and breakfast bar in am. Place is somewhat old and so you hear everything. At 10:45 when they are still chatting at wine bar and then when revelers come……
