Avenue Hotel Chicago

Not Impressed

The Hotel is old, we had a room on the 20th floor,but for a good sleep was it to noisy from Street side and from the Hotel floor side. The Hotel is never a 4 Star Hotel!!!!!!!!!!!!

A very good hotel

While the lobby is very small, it is bright and welcoming. The check-in person was charming and remembered us later in the day. She and the rest of the staff were very helpful in recommending restaurants. The room was clean and bright. The radio next to the bed could not receive NPR, which was a frustration, but the MP3 radio on the desk had excellent reception. We especially appreciated the free wifi, which was easy to access. The room was just fine. One little problem was that the room keys were all turned off just before checkout time and we had to have someone help us get into the room. There were several people with the same problem, but the staff were quick to come to our aid. This hotel was reasonably priced (Expedia rate) and close to many restaurants, as well as the main Michigan Avenue shopping area and the Museum of Contemporary Art. We would be pleased to stay there again.

The Art Institute of Chicago, now the second largest art museum in the country, with major Impressionists, Asian, American, modern and contemporary art. Too bad admission is so costly, but it’s worth at least a half day.

Great Location and comfortable room

The room exceeded our expectations. I have spent more on a room in Chicago and received a lot less. The location was perfect and we could walk everywhere we wanted to go(Navy Pier, Park , and shopping). It was so close to shopping we were able to drop off bags at the hotel and not go out f our way. We were very impressed!

I’d recommend

The only thing I would have liked was if the Sky lounge atop the hotel was open. Maybe its seasonal. Otherwise the hotel was great. Great location! Clean room. Average bed. The bar downstairs makes a mean martini.

Surprise Find-"Suite" Spot

For the location and room comfort this hotel is on the money. I was pleasantly surprised to walk into my room and discover that it was a well-appointed suite. In town for business, I enjoyed the functionality of the sitting room/office, including an I-Pod ready music player. The separate bedroom was accessed via a passage that included the small, but efficient bathroom. An added bonus: a walk-in closet with lots of hanging space. If you don’t need a large, lively lobby (this has the opposite!) or exercise facility I highly recommend this hotel.

"Suite" spot for business. Wireless access, large working area, ample desk and comfortable surroundings made it easy to get work done.

One of the best

I’m native to Chicago but have been living in Dallas for 10 years. I haven’t experienced many Chicago hotel stays but I have traveled around the world and Avenue Hotel is one of the best from location to service. I will definitely be back on my next visit home.

Very Nice

Very clean. Staff was very friendly and check in was quick and easy. Room was very comfortable and quiet. Enjoyed our stay very much.

Avenue Hotel for the Chicago Marathon

Clean and comfortable hotel. Quiet but not far from Michigan avenue and only 1 miles north of the millienium park (start of marathon). Nice pub on side of the lobby. The wait for the elevators could be long...

Great location, staff, and best beds ever!

Very well-kept rooms, just luxurious enough for an upper middle range hotel. The beds were incredibly comfortable, with soft bedding and lots of pillows of varying degrees of thickness. Great toiletries, nice view from my window over Michigan Avenue. Beautiful view from the rooftop pool terrace over the lake. My only issue was a rather noisy heater that went on and off during the night. Very positive experience!

Great combination of price and location

My husband and I stayed here while in town for a wedding (as did another couple that also attended the wedding)and were very happy with the Avenue Hotel. It was in a great spot right off Michigan Avenue and not more than a couple minutes walk to everywhere we hoped to visit while in town for our short stay. The rooms were larger than many I’ve stayed in while in different cities and I felt the price was fair for what was offered. I would stay here again without hesitation.

Great location

The location is great around the corner of the Magnificant mile and around with all the clubs and restaurant. I was at the 19th floor so had a very nice view to the street. The Hotelroom was clean, everything was okay and working fine. I also tried the lounge for breakfast but one time is enough to enjoy the view I prefer normal tables to enjoy coffee and the meal. But it is a great place to stay.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

I was making on the weekend: City Tour North and South Side but left earlier to walk from south into downtown, The loop, Shopping, Hancock Tower at the end of the day so see during day and night light, going out to any club, walk north taking picures, and then Boat tour Michigan lake and river.

Nice hotel

First time staying at the Avenue. Quick check-in, nice king room, comfortable bed, ample closet, and roomy bathroom. The hotel is located just down the block from Michigan Avenue. WE always walk a lot but there is plenty of mass transit available and cabs are easy to get. We enjoyed our stay at the Avenue and will return.

Traveler's tip

Breakfast at the wonderful West Egg. We love Coco Pazzo for dinner - our favorite in Chicago. All are within 1-3 blocks. CTA service is great so use the bus when you can. See the Art Institute but plan for at least a day. The theater district is wonderful so work in a couple of shows if you can. Chicago is always fun and has so much to offer.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If you get a chance, take the architectural boat tour- informative and fun. Great views for dinner at the Signature Room on top of John Hancock Building.

Horrible...Horrible...Horrible

This hotel stay was the worst experience I have had in my worldly travels. We were awaken by hotel staff BOTH nights, finally moved to another hotel. We had black hair strun all over the shower...neither my husband or I have black hair. The staff is VERY unfriendly...even more they will make up lies to cover their mistakes. Don’t waste your money...it’s not worth your time or money.

Book another hotel...if you book with The Avenue you won’t be able to sleep and you’ll wonder if you are sleeping and bathing in the filth of the person who stayed there before you.

Perfect location, nice room, good service

Mom, Dad, and two kids (5, 2) stayed for two nights. Free upgrade to suite on arrival. Nicely appointed room. Comfortable bed. Quiet hotel. 1/2 block of best part of Michigan Ave. Great location.

Great stay for price

The Avenue Hotel was a great place to stay in Chicago.Right in the heart of downtown, great shopping and good eats. Walking distance to Navy Pier.Didnt need a car at all.Room was a little small but very clean & neat. would stay there again

Nice, clean hotel but noisy AC

The hotel is in a great location and is very clean but the hotel is nearby a hospital so you do hear the sirens and the AC in the room is a little noisy.

Nice, but not our favorite

We booked The Avenue because of its location and the rooftop pool. The pool did not disappoint and the view from the rooftop was incredible. Although the pool area is definitely showing its age, we appreciated the fact that it was kept clean. Our biggest complaints about this hotel were 1) the limited number of elevators available made for a long wait to get to our room. 2) The concierge services were non-existent and the front desk workers offered some help, but clearly not to the level that we’ve come to expect from other Chicago hotels. Our favorites about this hotel: 1) Comfy beds 2) Location, and 3) Rooftop view.

Very nice

The hotel was very clean, in a great location. The employees were very pleasant. Housekeeping came at 8 AM, which was much to early for me. The desk was too big for the room, but other than that the room was nice. The bathroom did not have a fan. The bed was HEAVENLY!
