My kind of town(and Hotel 71) Chicago is....

My first trip ever to Chicago was fantastic in part due to Hotel 71. Looking out my 34th floor window I could see 7 bridges over the Chicago river. I was right across from the Marina Towers and the Trump building. The Magnificient Mile crossed the Michigan bridge right caddycorner from the entrance of the hotel. And the Corner Bakery was two buildings over on the corner, of course. Busses stopped right across the street from the entrance of the hotel, and theaters were two blocks around the corner,as was the "L".It really doesn’t get any better than that. Hotel 71’s staff was accomodating, friendly, and ever present. The room was very large and clean. And the price was right! Not only would I recommend Hotel 71 highly, I intend to stay there again.

I always take the double decker bus trip and bring a map with me to locate all the sights I want to see. The bus gives you an overall tour of the city and the knowledgeable guides give you information. I then revist all the things I have marked on my map using public transportation and walking tours from City guidebooks.

Everything I wanted in a hotel!

So glad I stayed at Hotel 71 for four nights in October! My room was good sized. The view of the river was SO NICE - I could see 7 bridges and some incredible architecture - including the Trump building. I had room service for dinner twice and both times it was better than expected - and arrived very hot and fresh! It was more food than I expected or needed and a good value! The staff was very accommodating. The hotel was clean overall and in great condition. I was pleased with the flatscreen tv, desk, dresser and storage in my room. I would have liked to have had a regular shower head in addition to the rain shower...I don’t like it coming down on my head all the time. Can’t ask for a better location! I will definitely stay at Hotel 71 again!

Be aware of new increased? sales tax! I incorrectly thought I was saving (compared to California sales tax).

Ok hotel for a quick trip

The hotel was convenient to get to attractions in the city. Room was clean. However, I was put in a room right next to the elevator which constantly sounded like carts running across the hallway. Next time, I would request one away from it.

Location and service

Hotel 71 has a wonderful location and a fantastic view of the Chicago river. I higly recommend you get a "river view" room. As a first time visitor to Chicago, I found it an easy city to walk around in. Many of the famous sites are within walking distance from the Hotel 71. If you prefer cab service, it is instantly available thanks to a friendly doorman. Customer service both from room service and the front desk is excellent. I would rebook there any time I visit Chicago.

Really good view of chicago river

I got a room with a really good view of the chicago river. This was my first time in Chicago. The guy at the front desk was really knowledgeable and was able to recommend me some really good places to eat. Unless you are planning on staying on the lake, this is one of the best hotels in Chicago. The bulk of good restaurants are not walking distance. But, the view and comfort of the room beats everything. I would rather stay at Hotel 71 than Sofitel and Hilton which are pricier. This hotel beat them hands down. Dont forget to eat steak in Chicago. Awesome city for very good steaks.

Eat steaks in Chicago.

We had a lovely time in Chicago. The rainy weather did not even put a damper on the trip. Hotel accommodations exceeded our expectations. Very acommodating. Would stay again.

Location, relaxation, view, new

Location-can’t be better! Right in the middle of everywhere you will want to go! Walk to anywhere or take El right around the corner. Relaxation-cozy room, cozy bed, lots of light, or pitch dark for sleeping in. Nice and quiet with all of the hustle and bustle right outside our window. View-we had a riverview room and it was exactly that! Looking out over the river from 16th floor was gogeous! New-we asked for a newly renovated room. We had to pay extra, but it was totally worth it! We loved this hotel and would go right back! A few things to note: ice on 2 floors only, no fridge/minibar, pay per view not working in our room, BEST coffee I had all week was from the coffee pot in the room! El as simple as it gets!

You can’t put lipstick on a pig!

As the title indicates, I was disappointed in this property. Although someone has tried "glamourize" it by making it look cool and trendy, there are deeper issues. My room was small and the floor was amazingly unlevel. In the bathroom, the tub looked like it had been through WWII. There were also cracks in the caulk and, in general, it looked like an old rundown bathroom that had gotten a cheap makeover. I was supposed to be on a non-smoking floor and the hallway reeked of smoke. I complained to the front desk about this. While they were very friendly and apologetic, they seemed to have little ability to address the situation. The hotel is in a great location, which is the one thing it has going for it. However, with hundreds of hotels to choose from in Chicago, I won’t be going back to Hotel 71.

Primo location, great staff

Check in was a breeze, our room was ready 2 hours before check in time, which was great. The staff at this hotel was very professional and courteous. Our room was nice and clean. We had a river view which was beautiful. Only complaints: the bed was quite hard. Not firm, but hard. The shower temperature was quite hot. If you needed it to cool down, you gave up water pressure. Otherwise, the stay was great. The hotel is in a primo location. There’s a Corner Bakery a few yards away, which is a great place to catch breakfast or lunch.

Loved the Location

My husband and I spend 4 days in Chicago, it was our first trip. I love the location of the Hotel to Michagan Ave and the River. We were on the 14th floor, the view wasn’t much but how much time to you really spend in your room when you are there to shop, eat and sightsee.

I’ll give it a B-

The staff were friendly and accomodating. The location was excellent, centrally located. The overall hotel environment was just OK. Negatives: the ac was inadequate for such a large room; the toilet leaked on to the floor; one sink faucet was broken. I would not make a point of staying there again.

Great views of city

The view from our hotel window was awesome!! great location, in the middle of everything, definitly upgrade to a river view suite, it is worth the money. I will stay here again when i come back

Traveler's tip on local attractions

i suggest the shedd aquarium, and the sunset river tour, along with the sears tower. we took taxis everywhere we went and never cost more then ten dollars.

Good location

Nice that it is right on the river. Central location by the shopping and fun nightlife bars. The room was quite good size for being in the loop. The gym was a little sad. Overall, I would certainly stay there again.

Great Not-So-Expensive Choice

A very well located hotel. Close to the Grant park (3 blocks away), close to the Magnificent Mile (3 blocks away) and close to the EL in the Loop (3 blocks away). No breakfast included but a small cafeteria at the lobby from which you can order. Comfortable rooms with TV, sound system, a desk and a couch. Free Wifi available and a great business center. Very friendly crew offering a good deal of services at the lobby (post office, bag holders, etc). The only downside to be mentioned is a not so good illumination in the shower. Still, I would recommend this to anyone going to Chicago.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Public transportation is great but a bit expensive if you buy ticket per ticket. There are deals for 1 day tickets, 3 days tickets and weekly tickets. Usable for the EL (Elevated Train) and buses. If you are on pleasure trip, get a City Pass. Five attractions for cheap: Field Museum, Shed Aquarium, Planetarium, Museum of Science and Industry and (I suggest) the former Sears tower. You can go up the Hancock’s tower for free if you ask for the bar. Great view!

Great Location

This was a nice quiet hotel in a great location. The room was very clean and comfortable. the hotel is very close to the souther corner of the Mag Mile. We were able to walk the Mag Mile one day with the free trolly to the Navy Pier. The next day we took the bus to Science Muesem then up to the field house and aquarium which was then also within walking distance of the hotel.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

We felt the Science muesum was deiffintly more geered for the kids. Whish we would have planned more time for the Field House (maybe a half a day).
