We enjoyed the stay!

As we planned our trip to California this fall, one thing we wanted to do was stay a night on the Queen Mary. We had had several people tell us NOT to stay there, but other friends said that the ship had been updated and that it was fairly "OK"--well, we went--and we enjoyed it. It seemed that several of the attractions on the ship were closed or being renovated--but those which we were able to use were very nice. The Promenade Cafe served a very nice dinner. The lounge was interesting if more nothing more than the historic bar itself. We used the exercise room which was allright, but some equipment not in the best repair. We enjoyed all the historical information found on the ship.

We were quite surprised that we had to pay $15 to park even though we were staying on the ship.

Most romantic little vacation I have ever been on

Hotel room was amazing with a port hole and old fashioned bathtub. Very comfy for two, plenty of thing to do around the ship for two days. Halloween made it extra scary, kept the girlfriend around my neck the whole time ;)

Great hotel

We had a great time on the Queen Mary. It was not only a hotel, but it was like we were in a different world and era. The free shuttles across the bridge to all the restaurants was great!! The other hotels in the area were nice, but they just seem basic and boring compared to the Queen Mary.

Traveler's tip on dining

The observation bar is great for a cocktail at sunset or late at night to relax before calling it a day.

Historical Favorite!

We liked everything about the hotel except that we could hear everything going on in the next room. (The walls must be too thin in that part of the ship).

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Would’ve been nice if there would’ve been more shops in the "Olde England" little shopping area in front of the hotel.

Nostalgia

All I can say is WOW! This hotel is amazing. It is a little out of the way but worth it. The rooms and halls seem unchanged from years ago which is what gives this place its charm. I don’t think they should EVER update it! The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was really spacious. I had a deluxe king room facing north at downtown Long Beach. The view was amazing at night and during the day. Room service had excellent food! The best part was walking around in the evening and hearing the music from the 30s and 40s playing over the PA. You almost felt like it was really that time period. The hotel staff was super friendly. Dezy was the girl at the counter when I checked in, she was super friendly. All in All a wonderful hotel if you like nostalgia.

Traveler's tip

Parking is 15 dollars a night. They are also remodeling some rooms so getting to your room may be a bit of a walk, the hall ways are LOOOOOOOONG.

Fun and Funky place to stay

Don’t expect a high-end experience on the Queen Mary. It is, after all, and old-fashioned steam liner that is long past her day. That being said, it is just fun to stroll the decks and imagine who else has been there. Mine was a fairly short stay, so I didn’t explore everything and didn’t dine at all the restaurants. The staff was of great assistance when I needed to get on-line and even went the extra step to ensure that my boarding pass got printed.

unfortunate experience

our room was not ready until almost 6 pm., check in is at 4 pm., Which would not have been so bad if the staff were at least apologetic. I expected old, (given its’ history)but, Once we were allowed into our room we found, peeling paint and wall paper, dirty carpets and broken down furniture. Food is a joke. Either bad and expensive, or okay, and really expensive. parking is $15 per day, and it took us 15 minutes to leave because they had only one gate open. The whole place seemed understaffed. Overall really disappointing.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The Aquarium of the Pacific, almost made the miserable stay at the Queen Mary tolerable.

Depends on what you want from a hotel.

Hotel is supposedly haunted. Interesting enough we went twice. The hotel has a character and interesting. Definitely different from usual hotels.

Would recommend it if you are interested in something different.

I love the Queen Mary

I have stayed at the Queen Mary previously and will return, but there were some issues this time. The reservation specified a king bed but I was given a twin room. The TV did not work. My stateroom was located on M deck directly below the Promenade deck near the gangway and it was very noisy with foot traffic overhead late at night and loud voices outside.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

I will avoid M deck in the future for certain.

Good Service and a Historic Ship

I’ll recommend this hotel to you if you don’t mind to stay in an old and historic room (but very clean, and the condition is also good). I had a wonderful time when I stayed in the hotel, it’s really a beatiful ship that I suggest you should visit here at least once in your life. Enjoy your trip in Queen Mary Hotel!

Traveler's tip on dining

Since the Queen Mary Hotel is near the pier, there is nothing you can find for dining, except on the ship in the hotel. You may drive or take the shuttle bus to downtown, then you can have some foods there.

Not for more than 1 or 2 nights max

Rooms were clean and comfortable. Hot showers are not available at all hours. If you wake up very early and want a hot shower, the water is not hot. It is cold. When we mentioned this to the front desk we were told that we took our shower too early. The hot water is turned off late at night and not turned on until the next morning. When we took our shower at 7 am the next day, it was hot. When we got in late and tried to call the front desk for a wake up call we could not get anyone to answer the phone. After numerous tries, we gave up. Same thing the next night. The only internet access was in a small area of the lobby. There were extra fees for any internet access either on a per minute rate or a daily rate depending on the type of access. There was no internet access in the rooms. The staff was courteous and polite but not very helpful. Getting a full answer or getting information was like pulling teeth. It was interesting to see the Queen Mary but I would recommend only one night or two at the very most. If you are trying to combine business and pleasure or are just on business, this is not the place to stay.

The free city shuttles were great. You can get to all the restaurants, shops, and sites on the shuttles. The shuttle came by the hotel frequently throughout the day.

Great stay at the Queen Mary

We rented a deluxe stateroom with a harbor view for the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was clean and loved the art deco motif of the room and ship. we definetely stay there again.

What A Place!

What a beautiful ship/hotel! We felt as if we had stepped back in time. Excellent upkeep, very nice staff, good food at reasonable prices, and loved being able to sit on deck.

Beautiful historical ship!

My cousin and I stayed on the Queen Mary and had a blast. The gentleman that I checked in with when I got there was so very nice. He let us know where everything was and made us feel very welcome. I wish I would’ve marked down his name. Michael perhaps?

Most Interesting

Our stay on the Queen Mary was without a doubt the most interesting hotel that we have ever stayed in. Everyone there was helpful and friendly and the atmosphere was like stepping back in time to another era. It was great to be able to explore a lot of the ship on our own. The mural above the bar and the original art deco fixtures were lovely. And the portholes in our room actually opened onto the water. We would definitely like to go back when we have more time to spend exploring.

Living History

We stayed on the Queen Mary for its historical significance but were also impressed with the modernization of the hotel itself. While maintaining the quaint character of the original Queen Mary the hotel also incorporated all necessary modern-day conveniences. We will definitely return (this was actually my second stay there).

wonderful stay, but...

My husband and I went to long beach for business and decided to treat ourselves a bit with a night on the Queen Mary. The staff was great, very helpful and attentive. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable. We walked all over the ship, taking our time and learning about the ship’s related history. The only disappointment was dinner. We ate in the Promanade Cafe & ordered the salmon. I have never sent a meal back, but both of us did. The food was not impressive for the price. That night we ordered room service. Coffee and tiramisu. Again, not impressed. I’ve had better from the grocery store. Everything else was great and we would definately stay there again. We’ll just dine elsewhere.

Amazing Place!

Great place if you enjoy history. Make sure to leave some time to explore the amazing ship! It was fun to imagine who stayed in the room in the Queen Mary’s time. Early registration for Carnival is available which saved us 2-3 hours of waiting in lines. We got our passports checked and Cruise Cards on the spot! We had to ask several people until an employee knew where the early registration was. Staff is super accomodating! We are for sure going back to bring the kids for more exploring.

Traveler's tip on dining

Had the most amazing dinner at Tract’s. Try the chocolate pudding....

Step back to the 1930’s

Stay on the Queen Mary to be launched back into the 1930’s/40’s. This visit fulfilled my expectations, especially the Sunday Brunch in the Grand Salon which gives you a feeling for life on board. Don’t expect this to be a modern hotel, bear in mind it is an 80 year old ship.

Great for the history

If you are looking for a historic hotel, this one is for you. The staff was marvelous. They are trying to maintain the feeling of history in the rooms with a nod to modern times. There was a small refrigerator and or course a television. But air conditioning does not exist. The air coming into the room can not be adjusted for temperature. It felt like outside air. Fortunately when we were there is was cool weather. Many tours are available. We took the Haunted Encounters. It was great. For history, this hotel can’t be beat. If you are looking for all the modern upgrades, this one might not be the one for you.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Once we arrived at the Queen Mary it was not necessary to take the car out again. Water buses are available to take you to the Aquarium of the Pacific and other locations on the water. They are reasonably prices, too. I would recommend a harbor cruise. It was very informative. We even saw some sea lions.

Amazing

The Queen Mary’s murals, light fixtures, staterooms, promenade and opulent attributes from another era were amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed exploring the ship.

A must for history buffs

My husband & I live in the Los Angeles Area and had never been to the Queen Mary. We had a great time. This place has a lot of history, most of us are unaware of. I think everyone should at least spend one night there.
