Reaching 1,421 feet (433 meters), the tall rock formation dates back millions of years and is today a site of pilgrimage for its charming chapel located halfway up. Known as a Magic Town, Bernal has been immersed in symbolism and legends since its inception in 1642. Attend the festivities of the annual feast day devoted to the town’s patron, St. Sebastián, on January 20.
The village is a short drive from Colón and Cadereyta in the state of Querétaro in central Mexico. Arrive by bus from the North Central Truck Station in the nearby city of Querétaro. Once in Bernal, get around by motorcycle taxis and discover a town steeped in tradition and magic.
