The inscription on it is in Gaelic. It translates (to the best of my limited ability) as: "Remembrance cairn for the Clan MacCrimmon, hereditary pipers to the Macleods for ten generations and who were famous as writers, players and teachers of bagpipe music. The Memorial to the famous piping dynasty of MacCrimmons above Loch Dunvegan. The MacCrimmons were hereditary pipers to the Chiefs of Clan MacLeod of Dunvegan, and composed many classical pieces of music in their honour, as well as founding a renowned school of piping at Borreraig. The 17th Century was the high point of their acclaim, with their last pupil, a MacArthur, graduating in the 1780s. The cairn pictured was built in 1933, paid for by Clan Societies and donations from around the world.
