#### Spend an hour enjoying the artsy atmosphere and natural wonders of this terraced garden, which features over a thousand species of cactus.

Located in a pretty locale on Lanzarote's eastern coast, the Teguise Cactus Garden seamlessly combines art and nature. Admire the architectural flair of the terraced grounds, enjoy a drink at the on-site bar and photograph the visually captivating cacti displays.

The site's artistic side is the handiwork of César Manrique, a famed Spanish architect. The garden pays homage to the natural beauty of the Teguise municipality's landscape and the region's agricultural industry of harvesting cochineal, a cactus parasite used to make red dye.

Walk through the calming landscape and admire Manrique's designs. Built in a former quarry for the extraction of volcanic rock, the predominantly green cacti arrangements are pleasingly contrasted by ashen rocky outcrops.

The terraced layout stretches below a pretty colonial windmill, which was once used to grind the region's corn. Climb stairs made from volcanic rock to reach it and get a great view of the garden and surrounding area.

As you explore, spot the differences between the 1,400 species of cacti that color the garden. Some of the species grow quite large, reaching a few feet tall. Take a guided tour of the garden to learn about the medicinal properties of certain species and their importance to the region's agriculture.

Have a break and enjoy a coffee at the on-site restaurant. Meals and sandwiches are also served on the outdoor terrace, which looks down onto the garden displays. On your way out, pass through a gift shop that sells small cacti in pots and themed souvenirs.

See more of Manrique's work developing tourist attractions at Jameos del Agua, a series of lava tube caves to the north. Alternatively, experience a spectacular view of the coast at Mirador del Rio, a cliff-top lookout.

Find the Cactus Garden near the township of Guatiza. Get there via a short bus from Teguise city or Arrecife. The grounds are open daily from morning until early evening. A small admission fee is charged upon entry.

The hotel staff were very friendly and the spa in particular is well worth a visit. The rooms were fine and the pool area is nice in the sun. Drink options are quite varied with an upcharge for branded drinks which is expected on an all inclusive. The food was average, breakfast probably the best out of the 3 main meals. Food was quite badge and bland with not masses of choice but it was average.

The property itself was lovely and aesthetically pleasing. Lots of natural light and space. The room was spacious and clean and everything was as described with the ocean view. The breakfast was top rated. Glass of juice, water and option of a hot drink with cake and the pre set breakfast. Amendments can be made if necessary, mu husband doesnt like onions so they substituted them for tomatoes. With it being a small establishment, it isnt crowded or noisy but quiet and peaceful. Ample seating and lounging seats near the pool. The staff are friendly and efficient A good place to go if you want to be out of the hustle and bustle and recharge. But only a 10 minute taxi to puerto del carmen and airport. Things to note: The owner doesnt meet you upon arrival. You get told the access codes to the necessary doors beforehand. The pool claims to be heated, the hotel management will say it takes time to heat, but it isnt heated. Apparently around 2-4pm it is warmer...but it isn't. Still stone cold. Not much to do in the immediate surrounding area, a short walk to the local supermarkets. A hire car is definitely recommended or on the main road are some bus stops that can take you to the more popular areas. The 34, las vistas stop takes you right outside "the lost world". No spa or massage facilities were seen on the premises and the bar area has no drinks or vending machines as photographed. As a place to disconnect, I would go again.
