WARNING: This property is a private home in which I did not feel safe. The owners do not provide refunds for cancellations we’ll in advance or under any circumstances.
I arrived shortly after 9pm to a dark house with no sign indicating it was anything like an inn or hotel. It was a private home flanked by decrepit houses, facing a highway. The door was locked and there were no instructions on how to get or check in. I rang the doorbell over and over but no one came. I then looked up my reservation on email and called a number on it, and a man answered who said he’d heard me ringing. Once he knew who I was he said he’d let me in in a few minutes. Upon entry I was asked to take off my shoes. I noticed crucifixes and Virgin Mary art around the entryway. I “checked in” at a makeshift wobbly podium by showing my driver’s license. The man was sweaty, wearing shabby jeans and suspenders. He took me upstairs to my room and entered it with me, showing me around even though I carried all my own stuff and where things were were obvious. He seemed to expect a tip. There was no refrigerator in the room, no kettle, no way to make coffee or tea, and no ice available. After he left I closed the wooden French door to the room and couldn’t figure out how to lock it. The only lock was on the back of the doorknob and it was unreliable. Needless to say, as a woman traveling alone, I did not feel safe. I tried to cancel my 5-day reservation the next day and I was told there were no refunds.
