Keep the windows open at night and drift off to sleep with the sounds of the river then wake up to the lovely songs of the birds!”

3. Jackson River Estate Cozy Cottage on the River

Alleghany County

“We had originally booked the studio apt for Jan 9 to visit an elderly parent - a family emergency came up and we had to move our visit to as soon as possible - the owner kindly allowed us to transfer the booking to an earlier date, the 5th (the day after my distressed call) at the cottage instead so other family members could stay as well. Owner is not local, so apparently did not know that the cottage was not quite prepared for guests- it was clean, but not stocked and had some repairs going……
