We were greeted by you are early (30 mins) which I had acknowledged before they mentioned it and said they would check. Again they said we were early but the room was ready and told Room 3 upstairs! We only have 7 rooms we were told. The room was tidy but dusty and the window although double glazed had a gale blowing through as it didn’t fully seal when closed. The shower head had more water coming out of the top of the shower head than where it was supposed to come from and wasn’t particularly warm either. You could hear every noise from people walking up the staircase to closing their doors. The staff were ok seemed to be put out when we went to the restaurant which was cold as was the rest of the building. They didn’t come across that friendly or welcoming. The building itself has the promise to be a really nice place but more attention needs to be paid to the rooms and temperature control. On this occasion we did have heating and the shower was warm but not hot. The disavventure started last night when we arrived at 20:45 for clock in with also a restaurant booking, and when we arrived there we been told that the kitchen was already closed, even if we had restaurant confirmation and could see a waitress coming out from the kitchen with some big orders, but they couldn’t bother to have more clients and they left us without food, and this was already a bad start and didn’t find any other option for us to get some food. The night evolved even worst, with a itchy bed and also no heather , i was freezing all night and wasn’t nobody in the hotel for get assistance, in the morning I wished to had a shower, but wasn’t any hot water running, the place was so cold and everything was very unpleasant. Best take your own travel iron but nothing else really needed Are immediately round the area isn't great but has an Aldi and Lidl within 5 mins walk. 2 miles away from Portobello beach with hip cafes and takeaways so either take a walk along there and enjoy the sunset or even take a dip. Great location for a trip to Edinburgh Just 23 min drive passing Holyrood area. Beautiful! Well worth the stay No breakfasts at the hotel. We recommend 5 mins round the block go to Company bakery on eskmills estate. First of all, this is not a guest house - it’s a pub with a few rooms. We arrived tired after a long journey on a Saturday night and our room was directly above the pub lounge that had very loud musical entertainment. The music went on late and then we were kept awake by the pub clients’ loud singing until they were sent home. Our room was large and clean but there were some stains on the bed cover. The bathroom door was broken and the WiFi didn’t work despite entering the correct password several times. The only toiletries provided were a couple of tiny rounds of soap. No body wash or shampoo. We had breakfast on Sunday morning and the lady serving was lovely. Sunday and Monday nights were thankfully quieter. We ate at the restaurant once more for dinner and again the same lovely lady served us and the food was good. This lady is why we have awarded more stars. In summary, if you’re looking for a peaceful place to stay do not book this place on a weekend. The rooms looked decent, we were coming to Musselburgh and knew the hotel was central to where we wanted to be based. Unfortunately, the hotel is more of a pub with rooms rather than a hotel. The room is very small but is clean. The bathroom is very small, the shower cubicle far too small with absolutely no space to turn or bend down to pick up soap or shampoo, with no shelf to hold soap or shampoo. So, showering was not an enjoyable or relaxing experience. Add in the power-saving bathroom light that turns off and in unless movement is detected and it just becomes really annoying. There was tea and coffee available in the room but they were of average quality. Spacious room, good shower. Very busy pub and when we arrived it was clear they were short staffed. Bit noisy but didn’t go on too late. Breakfast is only available at the weekends, there was some confusion as I had an email telling me there was no breakfast service. I had emailed back but didn't get a reply. Having said that breakfast was good and the man serving was really friendly and helpful.
