“It’s the perfect stay to stop just off the M6 when driving from Scotland to England. It’s a beautifully decorated pub, with lovely staff and excellent breakfast and dinner. This time our ferry was cancelled from Mull and so we had to change the booking at the last moment. They were understanding and there was no problem rolling over the booking until we could get off the island. We will be forever loyal to this wonderful stop just south of Penrith. ”

“It's in a remote location which is nice if you want to get away from it all. Good value. The sat navigation took us down a very potholed road but the road on the other side was in better condition so just something to be aware of. Characterful hotel, particularly the foyer. The breakfast was ok, very filling. Service was a bit chaotic with no plates when we arrived so had to wait. Rooms were nice and clean. Staff were welcoming. The games room has seen better days. ”

“Car park was full in the evening so had to park in a lay-by nearby. The staff were helpful and the breakfast was good. We were in a top floor room with a very low ceiling that could do with some padding on the corners as it was a safety hazard.”

“Early check out is a hassle. Staff not always present on site. Difficult to communicate with hotel staff in case of emergency ”

“It was our second stay at the Victorian and it won’t be our last. The room we had was very spacious and most definitely ‘dog friendly’. Our bed was comfortable and the breakfast experience was very pleasant with good quality food. Staff were very attentive and helped enhance our stay.”

“We had an excellent short stay. Friendly and helpful staff, nice rooms and good breakfast right in the centre of Ambleside. Would certainly stay again. ”

“Very average. Overall a nice pub area. Checkin was rushed. No parking nearby and confusing as to which car parks allowed overnight parking. Carpets were filthy and didn't look like they had been hoovered in a week. Breakfast was fine. ”

“The food downstairs is served by a friendly team and with a lot of selection to choose from the rooms are upto date and well maintained would definitely be stopping again 20/10”
