The Shelburne Sonesta New York

The Shelburne Sonesta New York

8/10 Good
"The location was nice, being walking distance from the Empire State Building and Times Square. Run of the mill hotel room that would be overpriced anywhere else, but otherwise quite affordable for NYC. Staff was pleasant."

"Front desk staff was kind enough to check me in early (11am) with a room on the 3rd floor. Rooms were very clean and relatively well appointed. I booked a room with a toilet/shower and everything was very clean. Plenty of clean towels and soap/shampoo. Felt floor was a bit gritty and could’ve done with a good sweep but it didn’t affect stay. AC was loud and kept the room sufficiently cool but not cold (>32C/90F outside). Walls a bit thin and closing doors and people talking outside was audible from room. However guests were pretty good and quiet at the right times. Only concern I had was that windows could not be locked. However, room comes with a small wall safe."

"I spent 2 nights there and the service and room were really great. We had booked the studio suite with 1 king bed and had a little living area. We were so pleased as we walked in, we were on the 11th floor and had a beautiful view of the city from our 3 windows. The room was clean and very spacious for a hotel in New York. Also located near 2 subway stations so getting around was easy. The room doesn't have a kettle or stocked mini fridge but we had a fridge that we stocked with our own food and we were able to get a cup of boiling water every night for our tea. The courtyard is beautiful and very practical if you want to work, eat or just hang there. The service was lovely, very helpful too. I had forgotten my toothbrush and they gave me one and a toothpaste. There is a nightly service fee of 25$ but it was redeemable for 2 items of your choice per night. We could choose cocktails, drinks, chips, snacks, pastries or coffees so this was really practical and we definitely made use of it. I would definitely recommend!"

Ameritania Hotel at Times Square

Ameritania Hotel at Times Square

8/10 Good
"A fairly nice hotel in mid town Manhatten. Near Times Square but the hotel road itself, was quiet. Staff were good especially Jeff at the front door. Rooms were clean and had ok amenities. My only complaint is that there is no coffee machine in the room. You have to get coffee from the lobby downstairs, but it was only available after 7am which is crazy. Most tourists are up way before this time, so I had to go across the road to Starbucks to get coffees, which cost a lot of money. Not fair considering how much I paid to stay at the hotel. Also, there was no view from our room just the back of the building with a load of ugly scaffolding so we has to keep the curtains closed the whole time for privacy so no daylight at all during our stay."
