“I never leave reviews but think people need to be prepared for this place. It doesn’t look like the pictures I saw online. We checked in around 10:30 pm and there was no one there to check us in. We walked in through a back open door and we had to call the number at the front desk looking for someone to let us into our room. “We chose this hotel because of the proximity to the Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve, and it looked great from the pictures online. This hotel and spa was interesting. When we arrived, there was a sign at the front desk that said that if there wasn't anyone at the front desk to use the phone outside the office to call for someone. “Overall, a pleasant stay at Dawn Ranch. The food at the dining area was good, and the private river access for kayaking was definitely the highlight. Select rooms are pet-friendly. Otherwise, the pet fee is double. Unfortunately, our curtains were broken, and the walls were quite thin so we could hear our neighbors showering, talking, and walking around. “Pool was out of action pool guy was off. Microwave was not working but the worst was the staff going home at night leaving campers without any recourse in an emergency. Our last night there we were the only campers there ( this was end of August) no staff in sight. All gates into the place was left unlocked and some open. Lots of vagrants around. Felt very unsafe, being we were in tents. Will not be visiting again.”
