East of the harbor is the neighborhood of Naples, actually an island surrounded by canals. Book a gondola ride or rent a kayak to circle around the island. In December watch these small craft decorated for the Naples Island Holiday Boat Parade.
Across the river is the historic Queen Mary, a 1930s cruise liner that is bigger than the Titanic and made more than 1,000 transatlantic crossings. The ship carried troops during World War II and has now been converted to a stationary hotel. Bring the family to dine or participate in a themed tour. Book an overnight stay in a stateroom.
On a bluff overlooking Junipero Beach, the Long Beach Museum of Art features ceramics and changing exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. Combine a visit for art enjoyment with the on-site restaurant with excellent ocean views. The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) offers works by Bedia, Matta, Tamayo and other contemporary artists.
The Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site is an adobe ranch furnished to represent its appearance during the 1800s. At the Rancho Los Alamitos Historic Ranch and Gardens, see more period furnishings as well as barns and outbuildings, now with ranch animals on site.
