Architect and dreamer Earl Young created a magical world with his unique and eccentric stone cottages in Charlevoix. Half House is absolutely one of the most adorable homes you will ever see! Now you can experience it for yourself. Enjoy the sandy beach, lighthouse and breathtaking sunsets just outside your door. Half House is an easy two block stroll to the quaint village of Charlevoix for shopping, dining, marina, ferry, drawbridge and music in the park.

Everything you will need for a comfortable vacation is included: luxurious cotton bed linens and towels, firewood and kindling, free wireless internet, books, music, Roku smart flatscreen TV with streaming channels and DVD player, kitchenware, beach chairs, plus an endless supply of hot water! Not to mention the spectacular view of majestic Lake Michigan! This cozy two bedroom home accommodates four guests quite comfortably. Relax!

Sorry, no pets allowed. Please note that Half House has no central air conditioning. The earthen stone structure and steady cool breeze blowing in over the cold waters of Lake Michigan keep the home comfortable. We also provide fans in every room.

Charming cottage close to beach

This special house was comfortable yet quirky. It is a hobbit house in a neighborhood of hobbit houses. Close to the beach and to downtown Charlevoix. Perfect for 2 afults!

We really enjoyed our stay at Half House. It was really close to the beach and downtown area. While it didn't have A/C, it insulated well and was comfortable at night.

Amazing! We lived in Charlevoix 55 yrs ago as newlyweds in the Coast Guard. Husband spoke with Earl Young to rent the Half House. Couldn’t afford at 150 mo!!! ! So this was soo fun. Beach down the hill, town is walk able everywhere. It’s pretty much original so enjoy the history of it!!! We’ll be back!

Conveniently located mushroom 1/2 house

Weekend trip with my daughter. We loved the downtown location and could walk to shops and restaurants. The house had such charm and we got a kick out of seeing the house we were in on the front cover of several mushroom house books in the local stores.

Wonderful stay by the Lake

We truly loved our stay. Very small house, with incredible attention to detail- everything one might need is there. Beautiful garden also, and lovely neighborhood to walk around. Loved sitting by the window and looking at the Lake. It was just fabulous.

The Mushroom house is older, but I think that’s part of the charm! We had everything we needed for a cozy weekend stay. Our kids thought the house was the coolest house they’d ever seen and loved the little secret upstairs bedroom.

Heaven in a Tiny House

The coziness of this fairytale home is without compare. Perched on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan, this hobbit house is within walking distance of all downtown Charlevoix has to offer along with easy access to parks and beaches. I adored staying here and look forward to the opportunity to do so again.

Hobbit House Holiday

It was great to stay in one of the historical Earl Young Mushroom Houses. We took full advantage of our week there, exploring the Charlevoix area. Great location, view and well kept property. It is the first stop on the Mushroom House tour, so there is the paparazzi, with the house being the celebrity. Other than that, it was a great stay.

Our children were charmed by the little mushroom house. Incredible location right across from Lake Michigan and a few blocks from downtown. Did not bother us, but tourists drive by & take pics of the house.
