"We arrived and discovered a mix-up with the room we had booked. Not a problem though - they bought us a drink at the lovely bar and had the situation sorted within 5 minutes. Lovely staff, very attentive, lovely rooms and good food. (The only small negative being the £17 for the scallop starter that had three minuscule scallops on the plate. Yes, scallops are expensive, but they might want to reconsider the generosity of that particular plate!) The rest of the food was excellent as was the service. I can throughly recommmend the Lister Arms and would be delighted to stay there again."

We were at a wedding close by so only needed the hotel to sleep at, the hotel is a bit in need of a re-furb but very nice staff and the room was fresh and comfortable. The room was clean, bedding and bed were comfortable we did not eat as arrived at 3 dropped bags and headed to wedding.left at 8 in morning Would stay again as we both said apart from corridors and general impression it was a nice nights sleep Plenty parking and nice area for a morning walk"

"It’s difficult, because I can understand the wide range of reviews. The fact that there are no staff on site, coupled with an unusual door access system, makes thinking of this as a hotel (never mind the star rating) somewhat of a stretch. Having said that, a mobile number was provided if needed. Our room was clean (although somewhat dated) and had all the equipment we expected. One big issue that we only subsequently learned about was that some of the rooms did not have an en suite. Ours did (with a much-appreciated heated towel rail), but I would have been very annoyed if we had been allocated a room without. Make sure of your room number! The location is excellent. Parking is available, but limited, so don’t be the last to arrive. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and felt we had good value for money."
