$8 Car Rental Zona 2

After you've ticked off the well-known places in Zona 2, there's more to see in the surrounding region. Pick up the keys to a rental car, toss your luggage in the trunk and get out there. We've come up with some drives you're sure to love:

• You'll discover Quetzaltenango Central Park and lots more interesting attractions in Quetzaltenango. From Zona 2, it's roughly 70 miles away.
• Why not see the best of Santiago Atitlan too? Notable sights in this buzzing city include Atitlan Volcano. Santiago Atitlan is roughly 50 miles from Zona 2.
• Find your way to Rio Dulce to reconnect with nature. Pack a picnic to enjoy or just sit and unwind. From Zona 2, it's about 130 miles away.

If you don't have a driver's license issued in Guatemala, then it's likely you'll need to apply for an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence to be allowed to rent a car. You should also note that if an IDP is required, it won't be valid on its own. You'll be asked to show your current license your passport and other forms of documentation as well. Lastly, make sure the credit card used to book the rental vehicle matches the name on your driver's license and passport. Some other things to note for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You need to be 25 or older in most countries to rent a car. If you're younger than that, it may still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of cars you can rent.
• Driving limitations: Be sure to read the rules and regulations before you drive off the lot. Typically, you can't cross country borders, drive on ferries or off road with a rental car.
